If i'm allergic to penicillin, what can I take for my sore throat?

If i'm allergic to penicillin, what can I take for my sore throat?

Zithromax or others: Mild throat symptoms can be from cold viruses, strep throat, allergies, irritation, etc... It can be difficult to tell what the cause is. If symptoms only last 1-2 days, it was likely allergies, irritation, or a mild cold. Doctors have rapid 5-minute tests for strep. A primary care doctor can diagnose strep and start non-penicillin antibiotics (such as zithromax, or sometimes Omnicef or keflex). ...Read more

Probably not: Most sore throats are viral. They can be from post nasal drip or just viral infection in throat. Rarely bacterial tonsilitis or strep throat is the cause. These have more pain, difficulty swallowing, absence of cough, fever associated. See your doctor if your throat continues to hurt. ...Read more

Could be mono: If you continue to feel poorly you should go back for a recheck. Sometimes mono can give these kind of symptoms. Mono is not a scary thing, it will usually pass on its own. If it is a more severe severe case there are some medications that can help. It can be associated with some other problems so it would be good to be checked if you do not get better. ...Read more

I had strep throat and was put on penicillin for 10 days and finished my last dose a week ago and still have a lesser degree sore throat, i'm concerne?

Sore throat: How was strep diagnosed? If not done by culture it may not have been the cause of the sore throat. There are also some persons who have strep throat, and are simultaneously colonized with staph or other organisms that produce enzymes that destroy penicillin, rendering treatment useless. See your doctor and get re-examined. Good luck. ...Read more

Have Strep test done: It is possible your recurrence of a sore throat is due to a viral infection and would only need supportive treatment. However, if your Strep test is positive it could mean a strain resistant to the penicillin group of antibiotics & you would need an alternative. ...Read more

Before my root canal, I was prescribed Penicillin, in case there was an infection. I had my root canal and stopped the medicines. Today, about five days later, I have sore throat and general malaise. Is it a coincidence?

Sore Throat: Your sore throat and gereal malaise has nothing to to with your root canal treatment. However if you start an antibiotic regimen you should finnish it. Although most sore throats are a viral infection where an antibiotic like penicillen would not be effective to treat it . So your sore throat is not a result from your root canal treatment. So see a physician. ...Read more

Is it normal to have bronchitis for over two weeks, even with a weeks worth of penicillin? Still congested, sore throat , cough and lots of mucus.

Yes- try this: Bronchitis often lasts 6 weeks ; is almost always caused by viruses so penicillin ; other antibiotics don't help ; may cause harm. It's irresponsible for docs to prescribe antibiotics for bronchitis! pelargonium sidoides (sold as umcka) is proven to help much more than antibiotics- see http://bit.Ly/1f6rjci i've had tremendous success treating bronchitis with homeopathy- see http://bit.Ly/h97vwf. ...Read more
