I am 44 years and my ldl was a lil elevated.I was kept on welchol (colesevelam) by my dr for 4 months and then stopped. Can i take Coq10...will it help me..thanks?
Adjunct only: Don't expect any benefit from Coenzyme Q. It's a minor miracle for a few forms of heart disease, but not common cholesterol problems. I'd consider getting another opinion about how to manage your cholesterol. It's primarily genetic, and staying physically fit is your first line of management. Best wishes. ...Read more
My husband had blood work done. His DR told him his MSH level is low. What does this mean? He was given Welchol (colesevelam) to take. We don't really understand!
Neither do I.: I have researched this myself & also don't know what an MSH level is. Perhaps there was a miscommunication. Welchol (colesevelam) is one of a class of medications used to treat elevated cholesterol which is a risk factor for coronary artery and peripheral artery disease. Contact your doctor for clarification. ...Read more
My daughter is taking welchol (colesevelam) for a gastro condition. It makes her hypoglycemia worse. What else could she take ?
I am taking welchol (colesevelam) after a cholec, 1/7/14, which left me with post-prandial diarrhea. Med helps but still have it off &son. Anything else I can take?
Statin+Zetia better: Most people become constipated with 6 Welchol/day. Imodium (loperamide) promotes diarrhea, thus ? dose/use. Welchol. 6/day. is approved for reducing LDL-C, but actual issue is LDL (Low Density Lipoprotein) particle concentrations. LDL-C not measured from persons blood & of the 3, 000-6, 000 typical fat molecules per LDL particle, widely varying amounts are cholesterol, thus a poor indicator. ...Read more
My total cholesterol came to 224.My dr had prescribed me Welchol (colesevelam) for 4 months.Any lifestyle change, diet and exercise that will rduce cholesterol.Thx.
Bad information: Hi. Total cholesterol is a virtually worthless test. What matters in atherosclerosis risk assessment are triglycerides, HDL, LDL, and non-HDL. Treatment decisions should never be based on total cholesterol. LDL is pretty much genetically determined. If it's high, medication is warranted (primarily a statin, but colesevelam is also good). Triglyceride is very diet and exercise responsive. Good luck ...Read more

I have slightly high cholesterol female 51 yrs old. I regularly exercise eat fairly healthy. Simvastatins caused aches pains & welchor no good please ad?
Eat less animal fat: For slightly high cholesterol, you can change your diet by decreasing your carbs and dairy intake since that seems to be a bigger source of animal fat for women than eating beef/pork and can change your ldl. Also, adding exercise, fiber through more plants, red yeast rice found in canada since they still have the statin like part, and cholestoff found at drug stores. Also use coq10 before statin. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I have severe diarrhea after gallbladder removal. Questrin and whelcol helps for a short time but still have major problems with diarrhea?
Bile diarrhea: After gallbladder removal or ERCP sphincterotomy bile enters the upper intestine more freely. Bile can be irritating to the intestine and colon in some people and you may be one of those sensitive to bile. Questran (cholestyramine) is a bile binder and usually manages this type of diarrhea. You may increase your questran (cholestyramine). Okay to check with your surgeon and GI doc about this problem. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
There are none...: Even the strongest opiates only "take the edge off" for people in chronic pain. Meds are only one part of dealing with the pain. A useful tool, but pain is so necessary for survival that we are not "allowed" to monkey with it much. In acute pain, the transition from miserable to less miserable can be great. In chronic pain, it's just part of the plan. ...Read more
