Panic can be unique: First, i hope an actual medical condition has been ruled out through history/testing/labs. Second, your symptoms sure sound like panic attacks so consider using Klonopin instead of xanax which will be harder to stop. Usual suspect: Anxiety is the likely suspect. Especially at your age w/ your medical history. If youthful cardiovascular problems are in your family history you'd know and should be examined, or if it's part of a syndrome you suffer - like Marfan's - you'd be being monitored for heart issues regularly already. Anxiety: Most likely anxiety. However, pending family history and your risk factors, i would still recommend basic labs, ecg, stress test and echocardiogram. Need a monitor: Although the palpitations you are experiencing may be a kind of "allergic" response, that is not likely unless there are other manifestations (like a skin rash) as well. It may be that you have an underlying arrhythmia or short circuit in the heart that is exacerbated by eating tomatoes.
