Belviq (lorcaserin): It is a serotonin receptor drug (similar to the old flenfluramine which was taken off the market in 1997 because of heart valve issues associated with it). The new drug is at a lower dose, but still some concern for heart valve issues. 50% of users lost 12 pounds over 1 year vs 23% on placebo. Cannot be used with certain anti-depressants (SSRI or MAOI's) nor with tramadol (Ultram). ...Read more
