What does weight gain tendency mean medically? Does weight gain relates only to wrong eating habits or we can gain weight without eating too much?

Recent science: Has shown in mice that an excess of calories turns on a normally silent gene in the brain. This is logical if you think of our ancestors. The gene turned on in times of plenty and they stuffed themselves. In times of scarcity they could live on the accumulated fat. If this is the same in humans (probability high) it could explain our modern problem.

Lifestyle change: Congratulations on quitting smoking! Nicotine from tobacco boosts the body's metabolic rate increasing the number of calories burned. Your metabolism quickly returns to normal after quitting smoking. So cutting calories/healthy diet and exercise are necessary to stop the weight gain. Consider professional help for advice on weight control if necessary: your doctor, nutritionist, weight loss group.

Assume you: Are referring to "blood glucose"? If so, fasting am glucose levels ideally should be very close to 100mg% but acceptable levels are up to 120mg% in individuals overweight. If concerned have fasting glucose and a1c done at a lab.

8yr/o gained 15lbs since July is obese throid norm but she doesn't eat much what else could cause weight gain BESIDES eating habits which are normal?

8yr/o gained 15lbs since July is obese throid norm but she doesn't eat much what else could cause weight gain BESIDES eating habits which are normal?

What is she eating,: My first question is what is she eating. Have a dietician do an evaluation of her diet. Second question, does she get any activity? Third question, is she on any medications like steroids for asthma. Some medications may cause weight gain. Start here and enlist the help of her pediatrician to figure out the underlying cause. Best of health to both of you

Swelling & wt. Gain: Wondering if the wt. Gain started after you started the pristiq, (desvenlafaxine) and if you are taking any other medications that can affect your blood pressure & heart/kidneys. I agree with dr. Pappas to get pcp evaluation.

How does the change in metabolism as you age affect your weight gain and how your body changes?

How does the change in metabolism as you age affect your weight gain and how your body changes?

Weight increases: Metabolic rate decreases about 2% every year. If you do not decrease the number of calories, weight gain occurs.

Rapid weight gain in one month went from a size 16 to a size 22 what could be causing this rapid weight change???

Stopped growing up?: There are a lot of potential reasons. Did you quit smoking, stop exercising, learn to cook, or is there any chance that you are pregnant? At 19 most women have stopped gaining height, and also transition away from parental control of what they eat, and the combination can be deadly to weight. Try to exercise every day and eat simple healthy foods instead of fast food or pre-packaged foods.

Hi, I was wondering whether wrist size could change as a result of weight gain/loss?

Hi, I was wondering whether wrist size could change as a result of weight gain/loss?

YES: Weight gain would definitely increase your wrist size as weight loss would reduce it. It depends on how much fatty tissue or muscle is around your wrist. If you are only noticing increase in size in one wrist then this may mean something else such as inflammation, lymph duct blockage, carpal tunnel syndrome. Please see your GP if you are concerned

Sudden weight gain with no change despite altering diet and exercise. What could cause this?

Sudden weight gain with no change despite altering diet and exercise. What could cause this?

Fluid retention?: Are you retaining fluid? This can cause a sudden weight change with no change in diet. Are you constipated? Sometimes after a few days of dieting, bms slow down and weight goes up (temporarily). A high fiber diet and drinking plenty of fluids will prevent this nasty problem.

Any nutritionist can tell me the best foods and habits for weight gain? Or some natural medicine that help me with health.

Any nutritionist can tell me the best foods and habits for weight gain? Or some natural medicine that help me with health.

Gaining weight: Gaining weight can be difficult for people who are naturally thin. Engage in exercise especially weight training to help develop muscle mass, eat small meals but every few hours, eat more lean protein and healthy grains. There are no great pills that help with weight gain unfortunately. I personally think we are better off being thin than heavy.

Began Zanaflex (tizanidine) 4mg 2x/day, 1mo ago. I've gained at least 5 lbs.; no change in diet, etc. It works, but is there a comparable one w/o weight gain?

Began Zanaflex (tizanidine) 4mg 2x/day, 1mo ago. I've gained at least 5 lbs.; no change in diet, etc. It works, but is there a comparable one w/o weight gain?

No: This medication is a muscle relaxant. Almost all of the available muscle relaxants work through the central nervous system and not at the muscle itself. If your presumed pain problem is improving, you may want to start to gradually increase your activity level after consulting with your physician.

I've had weight gain and bloating since Skyla insertion a month ago, is this to be expected? My diet hasn't changed

I've had weight gain and bloating since Skyla insertion a month ago, is this to be expected? My diet hasn't changed

Not common: Skyla has a very tiny amount of Progesterone that acts locally on the lining of the uterus and cervical mucous. The hormone released is so low it does not usually cause symptoms throughout your body. Monitor your progress over the next few months and see it is gets better. If not see your doctor

Weight gain so I have changed my diet, cut out soda and fatty foods and I am still gaining weight. Mostly just in the waist. Any ideas?

Hello.: Hello. If you have not seen your physician in a while, recommend that you be evaluated to determine if there is any medical reason to explain your weight gain. Sometimes people make the mistake of cutting down on their calories too drastically, this can paradoxically slow down the metabolic rate (and lead to more weight gain). If you aren't already doing it; recommend aerobic activity as well as weight lifting to enhance muscle mass.
