Weaning Off Percocet
I've been on Percocet 10mg x4/day for 7 yrs & want to switch to non-narc meds. How long should it take my body to wean/adjust to life w/o opiates? TY!
Percocet: This varies as everyone is different. I would do a slow weaning (every3 weeks), first decrease the strength but not the frequency. When you are on the lowest strength then cut down the frequency. 7 years of a short acting medication only is not appropriate. ...Read more
D'xd fibro&CFS. Years of misdiagnoses. On Wellbutrin, Lamictal, Klonopin, Topamax, Vyvanse, Seroquel, Adderall, Duexis, Doxepin, Butrans & Percocet. Too much @ 34 y/o How can I wean off these medications & what's best with my new diagnosis. I work f/t?
Polypharmacy: I am sorry for your misdiagnoses. You are on too many medicines including some that have similar indications. Your situation is quite complex. I would seek out a caring family doctor who can do a detailed psychological intake including the Beck's Depression inventory, the Beck's Anxiety scale, the Hirschfeld questionnaire for a mood disorder, and an Adult ADD inventory. Medicines could be tapered ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
How to tell whether its withdrawal or pain from an actual condition? I'm getting off of my meds, Xanax & Neurotin (daily) and Percocet 325 as needed. I am so weak and in pain- weaning off first two and no Percocet at all since it was only as needed.
Need more info: More details are needed. How much of Xanax (alprazolam) and Neurontin were you taking prior to the wean? How fast are you weaning? When you say you were taking Percocet "as needed, " how frequently were you doing so? Are you doing this on your own, or under the guidance of your physician? Are you on any other medications? Make sure you are being monitored by your doctor (s) closely. ...Read more
I HAVE HAD A TOTAL KNEE REPLACEMENT. I WAS PRECRIBE ATIVAN (lorazepam) 2X DAY AND 2 PERCOCET 10/325 6X PER DAY. WHAT ARE THE DETOX SYMPTOMS WEANING OFF OF ATIVAN (lorazepam) AND PERCOCET 10/325. WITH EACH DOSE I DO NOT TAKE I FEEL SICKER AND SICKER.
Withdrawals: Almost flu like symptoms with muscle ache, nausea with vomiting, sometimes diarrhea. Loss of appetite, feelings of weakness and apathy, sometimes shaking and chills with runny nose. Most of the worst can occur during the first 24-36 hours. Sometimes one can minimize these symptoms by decreasing the pain meds by 10%, per day. This can best be accomplished by increasing the time interval btwn ...Read more
Healthy active woman taking percocet daily for back pain. Can I quit after 3 years? They help a great deal but I feel I'm addicted and don't like it
I took percocet and methyldprednisolone together & body functions have slowed down so much I can't move or think. Should I go to the er? Is it normal?
Dr decreased my percocet from 120 month to 30 and I haven't passed all drug test and it's a chronic back problems. Are they allowed to do this and why?
Several reasons: First of all narcotics like percocet are best used for acute pain, not chronic pain. If not passing your drug test means that the doctor saw illegal substances in your drug screen then that is probably the reason for lowering your percocet. Narcotics mixed with street drugs are very dangerous and can result in death. Doctors can decrease doses if they feel it is necessary or dangerous for you. ...Read more

Stopped Percocet 5mg 48hrs ago. Is it OK to take my Xanax (alprazolam) before my flight? Know I shouldn't combine the two so is Percocet out of my system?
Ask your doctor: It takes Percocet 4-5 days to be out of your system (non-detected on urine drug screening). You should ask your doctor who knows you if it is safe to take your xanax (alprazolam) before your flight. If your doctor gives you the green light, just keep in mind that you could experience some added drowsiness. Talk about starting with half your usual dose. You can always take the other half later if needed. ...Read more
Overtime, can percocet 7.5/325 4 times daily begin to make you tired, even when it didn't prior to that?
Pain resolution: If your pain problem is receding somewhat, you would expect to find that you are feeling more fatigue than usual. Taking narcotics for chronic pain can be effective but is also problematic in many instances. The best strategy for you as an individual would be to slowly wean yourself off of the narcotic completely except flares. Also routinely take only enough to keep pain to manageable level. ...Read more

Meds not working: After a while of taking these kind of medicines called opioids the body becomes accustomed to them so that they do not work as well. Apart from increasing the dose, One can try alternatives such as stretching, heat, cold, acupuncture, electrical stimulation (TENS), relaxation techniques, etc. Very often using alternative treatment for pain in the long run are more effective than medicines, ...Read more
How long will it take for 3 percocet 7.5mg to be out of my urine if I don't ever take them and if I urinate frequently?
Probably clear: Typically this drug is not detectable by the urine drug screen after 4 to 5 days. It depends on the condition of your liver and if other drugs are present and competing for metabolism. It also depends on the sensitivity and specificity of the test itself. Hope this helps! ...Read more

Have been on Percocet 10/325 for 2 years for pain, 3 per day. For the last 2 months an hour after taking one I can't keep my eyes open. Normal?
No: Speak with your prescribing physician. If you are developing sedation at peak oxycodone levels it may indicate that you are not properly metabolizing the drug, and that may indicate problems with liver/kidney. There also may be other health conditions or drug=drug interactions going on - your collagen/vascular disease may be partly responsible. See your doctor. ...Read more

Talk with doctor: The combination of opiates (Percocet) and benzodiazepines (Ativan) can depress respiratory function and be a problem. They are frequently used together however. Adding a sleep aid such as Ambien (zolpidem) makes this even more risky (think of Heath Ledger) so you should discuss your concerns with your prescribing physician. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
