Watery eyes: Watery eyes can be suggestive of allergy but also of dry eyes. If the eyes are itchy it is more suggestive of allergy. If you have a gritty or sandy feeling, then dry eyes are most likely. The use of otc ocular lubricants/tears can sometimes be helpful. For allergy, there are otc allergy eye drops that can be tried.See 2 more doctor answers
Probably dry: A common reason for eyes to be watery in the mornings only is dryness which is exaggerated at night when the tear flow drops during sleep. If you do not have visual changes, pain, redness or swelling, then this is the likely reason. You might try applying otc eye ointment in each eye just before sleep.
No: The cut onion releases an acidic chemical which dissolves in the tears and causes irritation. The concentration under any circumstances is not enough to cause any deep seated change. So chop away and try using one of the tricks to minimize the irritation (google eye irritation from onions).
Yes: Determine if reflexive tearing (thus treat the etiology, remove inciting factor or improve the tear film or make more tears), or obstruction of the tear drain (thus re-open it or bypass it), or any underlying primary or secondary cause. Excessive tearing is usually when you have to carry a tissue box and the tears are always spilling over like crying.See 1 more doctor answer
