Water Contaminated Hepatitis
Can you get any type of hepatitis from dirty toliet water in a public restroom? Dropped something in toliet and had to reach in quick to grab it.
Yes, but...: Only if there are enteric hepatitis viruses in the places you touch, and then only if you stick your fingers into your mouth or nose, or into your food, before washing hands. Enteric means transmissible by swallowing the virus. If a person is vaccinated for Hep A, that major worry is gone. Hep A vaccine is give to toddlers (be sure you got it). Good handwashing prevents most transmission. ...Read more
Is this normal to feel pain in liver while I am in recovering stage from hepatitis a?After drinking some water i got relief from pain for few hours?
Urine sterile: Urine is usually a sterile body fluid. However, if the person making the urine for some reason had blood in their urine, then blood borne organisms could be transferred in the urine. And hot water alone would usually not kill them. We are talking a whole lot of "ifs" here though, so i really would not be too worried unless there was urine that was visibly bloody. ...Read more
Highly unlikely: Although Hepatitis B and C are contagious, it must be transmitted by blood or other bodily fluids (not urine). In addition, the susceptible person must also have an opening in the skin, that allows the virus to enter that person's blood. So it would be very unlikely in the scenario you describe to become infected in that manner. ...Read more
No: Hepatitis C is an RNA virus circulating in your bloodstream and causes inflammation of the liver. Although washing your hands is great for killing bacteria, it doesn't kill the hepatitis C virus (HCV). HCV is contracted by way of the blood stream (i.e. IV drugs and sharing needles, blood transfusions before the early 1990's, tattoos and even sexually, etc). We can cure hepatitis C > 90% now. ...Read more
% of getting hiv/hepatitis-B/C by toilet water splashing back at your hemmorhoid/anal fischure if last person was infected & didn't flush completely?
Forget it: That's not a realistic concern. During the old days, family members of patients simply did not get infected with these except be practices recognized as risky. If you find yourself thinking obsessively about this stuff, a short course of cognitive behavioral therapy may be a huge help. Life is hard enough without such fears. Best wishes. ...Read more

Niece got water on bag after using public toilet don't know if it is water or urine it touched open wounds on my hands can I get HIV or hepatitis?
No: This is perhaps the 20th bizarre scenario asking about HIV / hepatitis c transmission, and perhaps the tenth in which the asker has open wounds on the hands. It's my fervent hope that the individual (i believe only one) who is sending these will find peace and assurance by whatever means, and a realistic way of overcoming what must be a crippling fear of these infections. ...Read more
