Waste Money Seeing
I don't like to waste time or money seeing doctors. What will happen if I have contact dermatitis?
Very itchy rash: You'll have a very itchy rash that may make you feel miserable. It may be hard to sleep. It will last for weeks; perhaps 4-8 weeks. It won't scar & will ultimately heal. You won't die. You will have saved time & money. Otc antihistamines may relieve itching. If the rash isn't oozing you can apply Hydrocortisone cream 3-4x/day. If that doesn't work you may wish to see a doctor for stronger meds. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Low blood count: Anemia is low blood count and may be mild or serious. Either you body does not produce enough red cells (blood cell cancer, uremia, chemotherapy, low iron, malnutrition) or you are actively bleeding (ulcers, trauma, GI malignancy, gu malignancy) or you are destroying your cells (inherited, splenic overactivity). Your hematologist needs to sort this out. If the cause is gone, you can do well. ...Read more
Maybe nothing: Many patients have gallstones that never cause them any symptoms. Just having gallstones is not necessarily a reason to have an operation to remove them. If you do not have pain or nausea with eating or have never had jaundice, you may not need an operation. Decrease fat in your diet and try to achieve a healthy body weight to minimize your risk of having gallbaldder symptoms in the future. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Depends on type: Like many natural products, more research needs to be done and there are wide variations in quality, but the best forms of spirulina probably have significant health benefits. Not sure: There is already limited evidence of glucosamine/chondroitin sulfate for use in non spinal related pathology like knee arthritis and even less so in the case of spinal pathology. I'll be honest if it does help, it'll likely be minimal to small, but alternatively, it's unlikely to be harmful in any significant way(besides your wallet!). Good luck. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Check the reports: If you are drinking water from a municipal water supply, they are required to continually test their water for contaminants and make these reports public. Ask you local water authority for a copy of the report. It may even be available on line. If you are using private well water you will have to endure the expense of having it tested yourself. ...Read more

Am I wasting my money buying natural baby skin care products? Do regular creams work just as well?
Yes.: This is one of my major pet peeves. Please don't be seduced by the "natural" label. Cyanide is natural. So is arsenic. It's one of those words, like "organic" and "herbal", that manufacturers put on products for the sole purpose of charging you more for them. Yes, regular creams work just as well - and in many cases, better. ...Read more

If you whiten your teeth at a dentist, but you drink coffee daily, are you just wasting money whitening teeth?
Absolutely not!: There is an art to teeth whitening. A one time visit at the dentist will whiten your teeth but all teeth fade a bit over time. Diets that include a lot of dark pigments can accelerate this fading. You may want to also add in touch up whitening at home. With regular home touch-ups you can still stay as light as you'd like. ...Read moreSee 4 more doctor answers
Am I wasting my money on fish oil if taking 1g/day for health, family history of heart dx, and adhd/mood? 30yo healthy female
Hard to tell: Some pts report improved mood and temperament on o3fa, but these are individual report cases, in controlled studies it pales in comparison to medication and intervention...If it helps take it as adjunct therapy, but do not use it to replace time tested, well studied medications, and/or interventions, ie counselling, behavioral therapy, diet and exercise..Better still forget o3fa and enjoy some grill fish. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I've started taking folic acid forte with b complex vitamins and vit c will this increase my chance of getting pregnant or am i wasting money?
More complicated...: It won't help you get pregnant, but it may help you be healthy so you are better able to sustain a healthy pregnancy. I recommend taking a supplement with activated folate (folic acid) rather than Folic Acid for trying to get pregnant.
