Hoping you can tell me, is lymph node a sign of cancer?

Hoping you can tell me, is lymph node a sign of cancer?

Monitoring Centers: Lymphatic system absorbs/carries things too big to go into the arteries/veins like bacteria eaten by white cells and digested food. Lymph nodes "taste" the lymph for anything bad like bacteria, viruses, cancers, etc. When it detects a problem, it alerts the immune system and your body reacts. They enlarge in response to the inflammation they create when they react. They shrink when all is well. Read more

Does a pea size lymph node under a chin a sign of cancer? 5 months and its not painful. I have discomfort under my chin and tongue due toacid reflux.

No: Everybody has a few lymph nodes palpable in the neck. Since my strep throat as a second year med student, the one under my chin has been the size of a gorbanzo bean. Dozens of worried young adults have palpated it and been reassured. If your node is not growing, is not stony-hard, and isn't fixed to the surounding structures, ignore it. Read more

What does a lymph node swollen from cancer look like?

Enlarged and firm.: A norml lymph node is about the size, shape and consistency of a partially cooked kidney bean (small, bean-shaped, and soft but solid). A lymph node involved by metastatic carcinoma would be enlarged, irregular in shape and would feel more firm / hard to the touch (like a pitted date). A node with carcinoma might also have a woody cut surface and might be 'fixed' to adjacent soft tissue. Read more

Neck Pain: Chances are it is not cancer. You definitely should not smoking because it does increase your risk of cancer. You should see a doctor for evaluation to find out what is going on and to, I expect, alleviate your anxiety and fear about the cancer. Read more

I've had a lymph node on the back of my neck for over a year now. It's about 1 CM. Hard but movable. Should I be worried about cancer?

No: Just check the node about once a month. If it does not grow bigger, you do not have other enlarged nodes, it would be okay to wait and watch. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, low fat milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex. Get HPV vaccine. Read more
