Acupuncture is a treatment based on Chinese medicine -- a system of healing that dates back thousands of years. At the core of Chinese medicine is the notion that a type of life force, or energy, known as qi (pronounced "chee") flows through energy pathways (meridians) in the body. Each meridian corresponds to one organ, or group of organs, that governs particular bodily functions. Achieving the proper flow of qi is thought to create health and wellness. Qi maintains the dynamic balance of yin and yang, which are complementary opposites. According to Chinese medicine, everything in nature has both yin and yang. An imbalance of qi (too much, too little, or blocked flow) causes disease. To restore balance to the qi, an acupuncturist inserts needles at points along the meridians. These acupuncture points are places where the energy pathway is close to the ...Read more
Is not effective: Cataracts are opacities (cloudy spots or spots that block light from passing through) in the lens. The lens is originally clear, and changes its shape to focus on what a person looks at. It is in the eyeball, behind the colored iris and the pupil. Cataracts form after many years of sunlight (uv) exposure and from causes such as prolonged Prednisone use. Acupuncture does not help cataracts. ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers
Categorically NO!: I know of no indication or recognized treatment of accupuncture for treating arrhythmia. Arthritis: Alternative arthritis treatments, which are far more than can be mentioned in 400 letters, are often safe, but often ineffective. Glucosame has some positive effect on arthritis, but most are no better than placebo (help about 30% of those who try it). Most physicians do not recommend treatments that have no more benefit than a placebo, but most patients with arthritis try them anyway. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Pain of dermatome: The pain from shingles is in a dermatome. Use of acupuncture can stimulate nerves in a different way and thereby diminish the perception of pain to the cortex. FDA: None of the OTC antifungals have formal FDA approval for treatment of onychomycosis. That being said, you can still use them. Lack of FDA approval does not mean they are dangerous to use; they just have not been studied enough in treatment of nail fungus. Recommended dosage of cimetidine for 20 yr old to treat paintful plantar wart? Other OTCs not working, want to try this before more invasive measures.
800mg BID: The average dose I use in stubborn warts is 800mg twice a day for the average 150 lb person. Cimetidine usually won't work by itself for warts. The theory behind a H2 antihistamine is that chronic warts are sensitive to moisture and PH changes. Tagamet (cimetidine) will lower gastric Acid over time causing overall body PH to increase slightly. Use with a topical wart remover. Also keep feet dry. ...Read more
