I was diagnosed with hemorrhoids earlier this summer. More than 75% of the time when I go for a vigorous 1 hour walk, I have bleeding. What can I do?

A little experiment: External hemorrhoids are no fun! Exercising to shed weight & enhance blood circulation will definitely help but we've got to protect those exposed blood vessels from friction. 1st, clean thoroughly with soap & water or hygiene wipes. 2nd, experiment with lubricants: coat generously with A&D, Bag Balm, Lanolin, Triple Paste, or even Active-Flex Band-Aid Blister Block. (External) hemorrhoid is painful. (Didn't try to pass stool; it just hurt all of a sudden after a lot of walking). Ways to ease discomfort at home??

(External) hemorrhoid is painful. (Didn't try to pass stool; it just hurt all of a sudden after a lot of walking). Ways to ease discomfort at home??

Considerations...: "healing" depends on whether the original cause for hemorrhoids persists. Have you been straining at stool, have rectal dysfunction, perform an activity that increases pelvic engorgement with blood or increases pelvic pressure (heavy lifting, prolonged sitting, etc.)? Have your hemorrhoids been surgically or medically managed (& with otc or prescription drugs)? Are you sure they're hemorrhoids? ...Read more

What can I do for painful hemmeroids it hurts when i walk, sit, bend over and lift. I have tried the hemmeroid pads and preperation h. I have no trouble going to the bathroom and no bleeding.

Hello. : Hello. One thing that is important is not to make your hemorrhoids worse. When you have a bowel movement be gentle when you clean yourself off. You can use pre-moistened towelets to dab your anus. Try not to wipe/rub. Pat the anus dry after cleaning. Avoid using harsh soaps or ones that contain dyes or aromas. Cotton underwear can be helpful as it absorbs moisture well in the anal area. Sitz bathes can be helpful. Sit in a bathtub with warm water. Make sure there is enough water to submerge your anal area. Soak for about 15 minutes – several times a day. There are a number of over-the-counter medications you can use for your anus to help with itching, burning and pain. Preparation h (which you already tried) is one of the more well known products. Oral tylenol (acetaminophen) can also help with discomfort. It is really important to try not to get hemorrhoids in the first place. Stay well hydrated (at least 8 - 8 ounces glasses of water per day). Try to get in 5 servings of vegetables and 4 servings of fruit per day – get that fiber in. Stay physically active if possible. If hemorrhoids become really problematic, it may require a visit to a general surgeon. ...Read more

I had a blod clot removed from hemorrhoid today and it is swollen worse than when it started is this normal, and how long should it last

Yes, surgical trauma: does cause swelling which can last for uptp a couple of weeks, BUT it does reduce with passage of time. Do take th emeds your Surgeon gave you. A Heating pack or an Ice pack would also help. KMAke sure you have looser stools by taking laxatives or stool softners regularly. NSAIDS help with reducing the pain and inflammation, so use them regularly. If getting worse check with your surgeon. ...Read more
