Neurologist and author, David Perlmutter, claims that gluten causes Alzheimer's. Can someone provide journal references on research that proves this?

Neurologist and author, David Perlmutter, claims that gluten causes Alzheimer's. Can someone provide journal references on research that proves this?

Fully disagree: There is NO solid evidence anywhere that gluten causes Alzheimer's disease, and there is NO relationship with Celiac disease and dementia, but Celiac disease does cause a Peripheral Small Fibre Neuropathy. We have some anecdotal cases of gluten sensitivity affecting MS indirectly, and maybe transient worsening of other conditions, but no Alzheimer's links. ...Read more

Can biology research or chemistry research help cure cancer?

Can biology research or chemistry research help cure cancer?

My goodness: I need more than 400 characters to answer that question! the answer is yes, cell and molecular biology research has led to better understanding of cancer and significant improvements in therapy. The limitation i see to this is the tremendous cost of the new medicines derived from said research. Prevention and early detection are still very important and will be even more as the population ages. ...Read more

What's the controversy over stem cell research? Didnt obama fix things?

No fix by Obama: Obama regulatory issues have compounded difficulties in obtaining research funding for both embryonic & adult derived stem cell. More research is being developed for use of adult deirved tissue than embryonic. Both hold great promise, with embryonic in the far distant future. Adult stem cell therapies are exploding in applications and uses. Government part of problem, not the solution. ...Read more

Read about a LPR5 gene mutation family in science magazine, does new drug LP33401 increase bone width too or juz BMD in the mice experiment?

Interesting question: When I searched for lp40331, I found it to be the part no. for a John Deere T-shirt. The leprosy susceptibility genetic loci are fascinating, however. Armauer Hanson discovered Mycobacterium leprae in Bergen, Norway in 1873. Genetic susceptibility to leprosy was long suspected by epidemiologists, and now confirmed, explaining why many family or tribe members are resistant. See OMIM.org %609888 ...Read more

If aids researchers were provided with infinite funds how long would it take for a cure?

Tough to say!: I would say that while funding is helpful to finding a cure, what we are missing is key piece(s) of understanding of how the virus works and how it hides from our immune system. We need to understand how our own immune system works as well. There is a lot of vaccine research to understand how to stimulate our own immune system to recognize and kill HIV in every infected cell in the body. ...Read more

Not sure: The one thing that has definitely been accomplished is that we have a much better understanding of the cause of tinnitus.
