Hello I have bad anxiety as i sleep i suddenly wake gasping for air i don't have apnea is this anxiety?
Therapy will help.: Sadly, you may be having anxiety. If you are sure you don't have sleep apnea then i would wonder if you are having nightmares. You may want to talk with someone about your current level of stress. Sleep apnea: Please see your physician asap. If you awaken gasping for air, you probably are suffering from sleep apnea- stopping breathing for at least 10 seconds. Get a check-up: There are two terms doctors use often for shortness of breath in bed: "orthopnea" which is not being able to lie flat without feeling short of breath and "PND" which is similar to what you describe, that is, waking up short of breath after being asleep.
