My 10 year old son takes Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine) 70mg every morning teachers tell me that around 11 am its wearing off. Wondering if short acting ritalin would be bet?
I have been on ritalin for adhd for 4 years and I change to vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine) tomorrow, is there anything I should know before taking vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine)? Thanks
The equivalent dose: Of Amphetine is 1/2 the dose of Methylphenidate, branded Ritalin. Multiply ½ of your current total daily dose of MPH x 3 for your equivalent dose of Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine). You may do well on less because it works for 12-14 hours & has very little " rebound" as it wears off. Max. Adult dose of Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine) is 70 mg/day. Onset of action is 1 ½ -2 hours, so you might take it earlier. Side effects are same as MPH's. ...Read more
Can you explain to me ritalin crash compared to Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine) and other ADHD medications?
There are only two: Stimulants, methylphenidate & Amphetamine. Since 2000, multiple delivery systems of each have been produced. Each differs in onset of action, time of peak clinical effect & duration of action. Longer & more consistent drug delivery gives better symptom control & reduces symptoms of "rebound" ADHD, irritability, emotional lability & the "crash" noted by some teens & adults as the effect wears off ...Read more
I'm prescribed Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine) but the copay is too expensive for me. Ritalin didn't work. Is Adderall an alternative safe to bring up with my psychiatrist?
Adderall has been helping me with my illness but I can't sleep. Would vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine) or ritalin be a better option and still give euphoria and clear thoughts?
Oh, my. Adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) &: Methylphenidate products are not intended to produce euphoria. Please call your psychiatrist ASAP if you are experiencing a sense that you can hang the moon & set the stars, because it may have triggered an episode of hypomania when added to your Prozac (fluoxetine).I don't know your family history or whether your depression. started before puberty, but some mood disorders reveal themselves at your age. ...Read more

Why would a doctor prescribe my friend Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine) when he has heavily abused Adderall ritalin and illegal amphetamines like cocaine and meth?
UNINFORMED: I would wonder if your "friend" has been honest about the medications that have been abused. Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine) is a prodrug and is not active if snorted ot injected. Still it is an amphetamine. Your friend will eventually be caught as there are more and more externally systems that monitor for doctor shopping and drug abuse. ...Read more

What are the differences in dosage between ritalin (methylphenidate) and adderall, to achieve the same effects?
Rough estimate below: D-amphetamine (dexedrine) is about twice as potent as methylphenidate (ritalin), so 10 mg of the former is roughly the same as 20 mg of the latter. Adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) is a mixture of 1/2 d-amphetamine plus 1/2 d- & l-amphetamine (the latter being inactive with respect to adhd. So, conversion from Ritalin to Adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) is about 20 mg down to 15 mg. But, individual response varies, so that's just a start. ...Read more

I have arrhythmia, would ritalin (methylphenidate) or dexedrine be dangerous for me to use? Which is safer and in what dosage?
Possibly: Ritalin (methylphenidate) and Dexedrine are stimulants which can aggravate pre-existing arrhythmias. For some conditions, I recommend avoidance of stimulants in any dose whereas for others I am less strict. You shoul discuss with your doctor. ...Read more
Can I stop ritalin (methylphenidate) for example for one total day without talking to my doc? Is there any risk? I am on ritalin (methylphenidate) 10 3x, but my dosage should be increased

Skipping a dose is not harmful but adhd symptoms will return and may interfere with function. After extensive dosage trials, ritalin (methylphenidate) helped the first week, now it only worsens my anxiety, I can't take it. Should I ask my psychiatrist to try dexedrine for my inattentive add? Or what other drug is recommended?
Some questions first: How do you know you have adhd? Was any testing done? Were collaterals interviewed? A thorough childhood history taken? Were anxiety, mood, and learning disorders ruled out? If truly adhd, discuss with prescribing doc the possibility of the non-stimulant medication strattera (atomoxetine). Other medications, such as Clonidine and Guanfacine may be helpful. ...Read more

Re Ritalin - I feel like there are mixed messages about the risks associated with high dose methylphenidate (in otherwise healthy adults)
Ask doc: Ritalin (methylphenidate) prescribed for ADULT ADHD or Narcolepsy is safe when taken as prescribed by your doctor. Most people do not require "high doses" and the dosing range is pretty stable. If your doctor has prescribed a high dose, it may because you are breaking it down faster. Do not change your dose without consulting your doctor. ...Read more
What is the maximum dose of ritalin (methylphenidate) ir which can be given to a patient if he needs much more than normal? How many mgs are a maximum?
I've heard 40-60mgs: I've heard that doses higher than 60 mgs per day can be harmful and are not recommended. If your symptoms are not controlled well by the meds you take at safe high doses, perhaps additional forms of treatment like cbt therapy might help. Young people can benefit so much from learning better self-management life skills. The best part is that they improve many things and have no health risks. Think. ...Read more

My Dr has kept me @30mg Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine) for like 6mnths now. I don't know how 2 approach the idea of raising my dosage I worry abt coming off as drug seeking?
Document the onset: & duration of action of your current low dose. Know that as your doctor increases your dose toward 70 mg./day, your anxiety may increase, also. I want to get off risperdone and am on 2mg. I have been on it for 3 and a half months. I also take Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine) 40mg. How can I start lowering the dosage a?
Concerned about my tolerance to Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine) as I am at maximum dosage and do n ot receive the benefits anymore and finding myself going back into anti social behaviors like previously. Alternative meds?
This is a high dose.: Although many patients do require a higher dose of vyvanse, (lisdexamfetamine) 80 mg is a high dose and there is no scientific evidence that higher doses are any better. In fact, with higher doses comes the portential for more side effects. If the 80 mg is working well for you, as long as your are closely monitored by your prescribing physician (including possibly an ekg). A different medicaiotn may be warrented. ...Read more
