Lisdexamfetamine is a medication to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
Why would a doctor prescribe my friend Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine) when he has heavily abused Adderall ritalin and illegal amphetamines like cocaine and meth?
UNINFORMED: I would wonder if your "friend" has been honest about the medications that have been abused. Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine) is a prodrug and is not active if snorted ot injected. Still it is an amphetamine. Your friend will eventually be caught as there are more and more externally systems that monitor for doctor shopping and drug abuse. ...Read more
Are Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine) and Adderall used together in some patients? I've heard this is done for some ppl who don't work well with Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine) alone?
Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine) & adderall r: Both stimulants used to treat ADHD, and may both b prescribed to the same pt though its more common to see only 1 stimulant type used in a single pt. vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine) is a derivative of Dexedrine, while adderall is amphetamine salt. Keeping below total daily recommended doses would require converting one to another, which could lead 2 incr errors or a more complex med regimen. Talk 2 ur doc re: best tx 4 u ...Read more
Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine): Two part answer: (1) vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine) is a compounded molecule of a normal Amino Acid and amphetamine. This property allows for its longer action in a unique way to the CNS stimulants as it takes time for the body to break it down before it works. (2) as an stimulant, it increases Dopamine and norepinephrine available to the part of the brain that allows one to inhibit undesired impulses and distractions. ...Read more
So if Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine) takes longer than an hour to kick in I am extremely confused. When would the peak hours of studying be?
The Best Fit For You: How anyone reacts to any adhd medication is going to be unique; it's important to have good communication with your prescriber, and work together to make the medication work well. It is important to pay close attention (no pun intended) to how soon you can tell an effect and how long it lasts. Over time you should be able to reliably predict the best schedule. ...Read more
Yes: Idiosyncratic differences are always a possibility, but if you can take both of these meds individually, then there should be no problem taking them together. [claritin-d however includes the moderately stimulating ingredient, pseudoephedrine, so be careful with this antihistamine-decongestant -- occasionally, one may be "overstimulated" and have the jitters, or increased anxiety or irritability]. ...Read more
Yes, but why?: 5htp is precursor Amino Acid used by body in many areas. It is a precursor to Dopamine production in brain. But eating more of it won't increase brain dopamine. Dopamine is produced according to your genetic make up & putting in more won't change your genome or rate of production. A good analogy is over filling your gas tank (eating 5htp) hoping to increase your car's horsepower (vyvanse). ...Read more

Simple: I would not worry about calling cancer-simply you're not tolerating this medication very well even at its lowest dosage which 20 mg is. There's no need to torture yourself like this. Ask your psychiatrist for a different option of which there are many. Hope this helps ...Read more

On urine drug testing it shows up as amphetamine; student athletes have to show an empty prescription bottle to the coach. ...Read more

Unclear: This particular drug is an amphetamine. You may be using for ADD. If you started on the same dose you were last on, you may be taking too much to start with. ADD & Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine): I never commit a patient to a lifelong treatment. We don't know what the future will bring. Does klonopin have an interaction with Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine) or do they counteract one another?
Hmm: Both very addictive medications. One is an upper (vyvanse) and the other is a downer - so yes, in a sense they oppose each other. I typically don't promote use of stimulants for people with "nervousness" or anxiety. but its hard to second guess your medications without knowing your history. That said, I almost never prescribe both at the same time. ...Read more

If I take enough Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine) will it keep me awake to do my work, without overdosing?
Not a great idea: The use of stimulants for staying up for long periods of time is longstanding. It can be effective in the short run; but, depending on how long you need to stay up, you may end up requiring quite high doses, which increases the risk of side effects. Moreover, people need sleep: it's good for you. Also, not clear that information crammed in while on stimulants is readily available later. ...Read more

Is this Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine) allergic reaction? Hives that began as what looked like many mosquito bites then turned into welts..
I was prescribed 40 mg vyvanse, but I'm really scared to take it because I don't like things that change the way I think.
What makes up Vyvanse other than its active compound? In other words, what additional compounds or elements, chemicals, 'inerts' etc are in the drug?
Vyvanse is a prodrug: Its chemical structure consists of dextroamphetamine coupled with the essential amino acid, L-lysine, called Lisdexamfetamine (L-lysine-dextroamphetamine). It must be converted in the body to the active stimulant, dextroamphetamine. It is useful for treatment of ADHD because the time necessary for the body to convert it allows it to be active much longer than dextroamphetamine itself. ...Read more
