Vomiting with no fever in a sleeping 2 year old. Maybe something he ate?

Vomiting with no fever in a sleeping 2 year old. Maybe something he ate?

Likely viral: Usually these things are viral and are short-lived and self-limited, meaning they go away spontaneously. They are highly contagious so strict hand-washing is in order. Dehydration is the main threat so push fluids even if he/she doesn't want to eat. Big concerns are fever over 100.6; or complaints of pain. Intermittent cramps are expected but if there is progressing unrelenting pain seek help. ...Read more

My 2 year old vomited last night 5 times with no fever, no vomiting since but she now has a fever between 100 & 101f. Is this food poisoning or flu?

My 2 year old vomited last night 5 times with no fever, no vomiting since but she now has a fever between 100 & 101f. Is this food poisoning or flu?

Fever and vomiting: Some food poisoning does have fever associated with it. The time of onset of symptoms and history of other people who had the same food getting simialr symptoms can help. Also, viral gastroenteritis usually does not have blood in the stools. There is usually otyher children/adults who have been sick with viral gastorenteritis as well. ...Read more

My 2 year old keeps vomiting. She is fine in herself. No temp, no diarrhoea & tummy doesn't hurt.Could it be a food intolerance or more likely a virus?

My 2 year old keeps vomiting. She is fine in herself. No temp, no diarrhoea & tummy doesn't hurt.Could it be a food intolerance or more likely a virus?

Most likely a virus: The most common reason for vomiting in children is related to viral infection. The difference would be that if it is viral , you would not expect it to last but 1-3 days. If vomiting persists beyond that, then consider other causes such as food intolerance , gastric reflux, uti, etc. At that point i would take her to the doctor. ...Read more

My brother has been sick for past 11 weeks can't eat or drink much without vomiting dr. Says he is fine maybe stress, but he feels a pain in his chest?

Hard headed: No part of repetitive puking for 11 weeks is "fine." blaming it on stress would be very uncommon, and probably unsafe, at least until he is evaluated by a dr to check for treatable causes of recurrent nausea & vomiting, particularly if it is triggered by a certain volume of food/drink intake. He needs to see dr. ...Read more

3 year old has a phlegmy cough, but no fever. Having trouble sleeping. Just started new preschool, so might have picked up a cold. Advice for comfort?

See his doctor: he might have reactive airway disease from exposure to viruses affecting his upper and lower airways, common in some kids, especially when starting preschool due to congestion in class, even with a small number of kids, given the productive cough and sleep disturbance, he needs to see his doctor as he might need bronchodilators and probably antibiotics for upper respiratory infection, take care ...Read more

My 2 year old woke up vomiting foamy white saliva. She has no fever or diahrea but won't eat or drink?

Could be seizure: sounds like possible seizure after a fever;sometimes if a fever it can happen , but maybe just a cold/cough but the white foamy saliva is different , if any wheezing or cough go to er for further test like a chest X-ray. she may have inhaled a food particle and trying to cough it up . or may have bronchitis, . Sounds like you need to get her evaluated in an er, especially if trouble breathing ...Read more

My 2 year old has been running a fever since last night his body is hot but he wants to be covered in blankets. Can i make this fever worse?

My 2 year old has been running a fever since last night his body is hot but he wants to be covered in blankets. Can i make this fever worse?

No: The fever itself won't hurt your child. What is important is that you make him feel more comfortable at this time so keeping warm in blankets is a good idea. You can also give him medication such as Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen to bring the fever down. If this fever continues for 3 or more days you should bring him to the doctor to identify the infection and a possible treatment. ...Read more

My girl 3 years old has a fever with no other symptoms. Only fever ,feeling fatigue & sleepy. She also refuses eating.. What's the reason?

My girl 3 years old has a fever with no other symptoms. Only fever ,feeling fatigue & sleepy. She also refuses eating.. What's the reason?

Viral?: Your baby most likely has a viral illness that is causing some nausea so she does not eat. She may have less fatigue after her fever comes down and you can do that with Tylenol (acetaminophen). If she still continues to refuse to eat, try to give her small sips of fluids so she stays hydrated. If she gets worse or you cannot get her to take fluids, she will need to see a doctor. ...Read more

My 2 year old is getting over a fever and isnt eating. He drinks fluids but at times regurgitates them. He also has a little diherrea through the nigh?

Stomach virus: This is normal. Just because he may feel better doesn't mean he is ready for beef stroganoff. If he drinks too much, or eats too much or the wrong thing, he may vomit. Also his gut isn't back to normal, and the diarrhea shows that. A probiotic would help restore some balance to the gut. ...Read more

My 2 year old just had a chest xray and was diagnosed with bronchitis. He has no cough or other symptoms other than high fever. Does this make sense?

My 2 year old just had a chest xray and was diagnosed with bronchitis. He has no cough or other symptoms other than high fever. Does this make sense?

Easy over read: Radiologists often make a suggested diagnosis based on assumptions. You only order chest xrays if you suspect a chest finding. If the xray is taken before the kid takes a deep breath,it will look like bronchitis. The suggested label from the radiologist is just that, a suggestion, they also say this needs to have clinical correlation. The doc may have just used the label to finish the visit ...Read more
