Vivelle Estrogen Based Agent
Is there a quality difference between vivelle (estradiol) brand estrogen patches and generic ones, e.G., estradot 17b?
Synthetic meds: 1st no such thing as free lunch ie there's always some potential risk or side effect. 2nd FDA only approves meds which they deem benefit greater than risk (tho obviously not w/o disagreement & controversy). 3rd no studies demonstrate benefit of any oral estrogen over another tho some studies suggest topical safe than oral. 4th Natural isn't safe than synthetic ie tobacco is natural but isn't safe! ...Read more

Hormone replacement- is the dose and duration of prometrium (micronized progesterone) used in menopause dependent on the dose of estrogen being used by the patient.?
Not necessarily: If you still have a uterus, then you need a combination of estrogen and progesterone. The Progesterone can by taken continuously or in a cyclic fashion. What is better to treat low estrogen in 30 yr old female (6 p/mg), Premarin (conjugated estrogens) , estradiol or birth control?
Depends: If you have an intact uterus then I would use a birth control pill as it provides both the estrogen and progesterone you need to prevent pregnancy and endometrial hyperplasia. If you have had a hysterectomy than both premarin (conjugated estrogens) and estradiol (estrace) would be fine. The estrogen in birth control by the way is estradiol as well. Birth control also lowers ovarian cancer risk (combined pills only) ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Lab reference ranges: Levels of these hormones are only as reliable as their test kits. One lab may use a different method for detection than another. You may not be able to compare values between different labs. Labs also set their normal ranges based on multiple tests. When prometrium (micronized progesterone) stimulates instead of sedates a perimenopausal woman what should be taken? Estrogen in combo with prometrium (micronized progesterone)?
Go see your doctor: While our impression of estrogen for perimenopausal women has changed dramatically over the last decade, it still should be used for right reason, and sedation is not one of them. So go see your prescribing doctor & tell her/him about your side effects so that s/he can offer you some alternatives (rather than just throw more medications at you). ...Read more
Yes...: ...But perhaps you mean bioidentical. All hormones are biochemicals. Estratest (esterified estrogens and methylestosterone) is a combination of methyltestosteone, which is synthetic and not the same as your own testosterone, and mixed estrogen hormones which are excreted by pregnant mares in their urine. These hormones are similar to, but not identical to, natural human hormones. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
