Is there any vitamins or supplements that help ocd?

Who diagnosed?: Before looking for a way to treat ocd, please make sure you have it. A psychologist or psychiatrist can help make the diagnosis. The best treatment for ocd is psychotherapy and pills only help to mask some symptoms particularly if the ocd causes anxiety. Please get professional help because ocd can, as you now, make life difficult at times. ...Read more

Can a vitamin B12 deficiency bring around ocd?

Can a vitamin B12 deficiency bring around ocd?

Amazingly, yes: Hermesh et al published in 1988 about 20% of an ocd group having unusually low levels of b12. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/3176999 there was another report by sharma & biswas, 2012 - a cae of a middle-aged man with ocd, low serum b12, and a + family hx of B12 deficiency who responded to B12 replacement. I would definitely get that level, as well as a methylmalonic acid level, checked. ...Read more

Can having vitamin B12 deficiency cause OCD symptoms?

Can having vitamin B12 deficiency cause OCD symptoms?

Not at all likely: Almost no chance of a direct link, but... We do know that: 1) the b vitamins are important to nervous system functioning. 2) B12 can make a noticeable difference in how good one feels. 3) deficiencies are (by definition) good to correct. Taking sertraline 200mg daily. Any vitamins/supplements you could recommend for my ocd? Under severe stress. Thank you.

Work w/psychiatrist: First and foremost, i recommend working with your psychiatrist on this so that both of you are on the same page. If you're not getting enough relief from your current regimen, adjustments and/or additions can be made. Regarding supplements -- one study showed that more people with ocd responded to inositol to 18 g/day, than to placebo. Be aware it can cause flatus and nausea though. ...Read more

Taking sertraline 200mg a day.Ok to take a high strength vitamin b complex too? I've read up to 18g of inositol helpful for ocd. Under extreme stress.

Vitamins & OCD: You could take a b complex vitamin without interacting with your sertraline -- also you're right about inositol and ocd: http://tinyurl.Com/mqgbjoa i suggest discussing this with your psychiatrist -- and if you want to try them, add only one at a time. Inositol may cause flatus and nausea, so you may want to work with it gradually. ...Read more

Could taking cod liver oil cause your heart rate to spike and blood pressure or would that just be anxiety and OCD worrying about the vitamins A&D?

Could taking cod liver oil cause your heart rate to spike and blood pressure or would that just be anxiety and OCD worrying about the vitamins A&D?

Cod liver oil: In the U.S., it is unlikely to have significant deficiencies of either vitamin A or D. There is usually no need to take cod liver oil or any other supplement of these vitamins. Having said that, cod liver oil does not usually cause the symptoms you're describing. They certainly could be due to anxiety. I would stop the cod liver oil, and if the symptoms persist, see your doctor. Good luck. ...Read more
