Could 3 small bruises cause an elevated d-dimer? Also, online info says vitamin C supplementation can affect PPT results. Would they be high or low?

Labs: I'd be surprised if the d-dimer was up because of bruises, and would not discount a high value as part of the big picture just because you're been bruised. You know that many healthies have "elevated" this-or-that. People on megadose vitamin C may have extra oxalate in the blood that some folks suggest could bind the calcium reagent; this isn't something we actually worry about. ...Read more

Hi, I am a vegetarian. Going on 6 years now with no problems. I noticed I am bruising a lot easier now. Is this a vitamin deficiency? I work graveyard

Could be vitamin def: Vitamin deficiencies are a common cause of bruising. Possiblities include Vitamins C, D and K. Bioflavanoid deficiency and zinc deficiency can cause this too. Everyone will become deficient in D if they do not supplement in fall and winter months (I advise 5-8000 iu/day). I advise everyone to take a multivit. Many multis don't have Vit K so try separate K. How much vitamin d 3 & vitamin K should a woman take daily? I am bruising easily and wanted to know if vitamin K will help so I won;;t bruise easy?
