Nutrition!: A gastric bypass is a very complex nutrition situation. If your physician has not dealt with it much i would suggest asking for a referral to a nutritionist or a bariatric center. That being said, the dosage of iron is fda approved treatment for iron deficiency, and the vitamin d is a reasonable amount. Sounds ok if...: Sounds ok for a typical normal person. Testing for 25-OH-VitD2 and 25-OH-VitD3, and then adding the results to get the total vitamin D level, can help the doctor check the source of the vitamin deficiency and the treatment progress. No worry: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Yes but: Alternatives are external beam radiation and radiation seeds (brachytherapy). At your age, conservative (watching) isn't advised. All of the therapies can cause urinary incontinence and e.D. - with surgery, they get better over time for most. With radiation, they get worse over time. D3 best; AVOID D2!!!: The best form of Vit. D is D3. VIt. D2 is dangerous and should be avoided. There is no Vitamin D1. I advise all adults take 5000-8000 iu of D3/day in fall and winter, year-round if you don't get much sun.
