My HDL is 24, trig 97, total 135 i'm a 38yo male in "good health" BP 110/60ish.
Are there any long term risks in taking 6g fish oil @60%=4g of omega3?
What for?: Why do you feel the need to take so much fish oil? First of all, you are better off getting your fish oil directly from fish like wild alakan salmon or sardines. Second, high concentrations of fish oil can cause anti coagulation that can make you susceptible to bleeding. Good health will not come from a pill. ...Read more
Got 20/1 omega6/3 ratio. Arthritis bad. Take 2k of grill oil. Got afib take padaxtra. Can i take large dose plant DHA supp. Ok. Am vegan exc. Krill?
Plant vs fish omegas: The type of omega 3 fatty acids (including dha) in plants are shorter in fatty acid chain length than the ones in fish. Our bodies use then longer chains much more efficiently, perhaps 6-10 times more efficiently. ...Read more

I'd elevated TSH;around 18, taking eltroxin 100 mcg daily, it's under control now but I look bloated, height 5.7", 145 lbs, age 29. What is wrong here?
Hypothyroidism: Eltroxin (levothyroxine) is used for hypothyroidism. If your TSH is 18, then you probably need an increase in dose of your eltroxin, although 100 mcg is probably enough to make you feel better, but a dose that normalizes your TSH will make you feel normal. Make sure you take it on an empty stomach and without hot liquids. See your doctor. ...Read more
My liver tests are as follows:
Bilirubin Direct : 0.3 mg/dL, Bilirubin Indirect : 1.8 mg / dl, Globulin : 5.6 g / dL
Should I be concerned
? Gilbert's disease: It is a familial (autosomal dominant), common (2-5% of people), unconjugated hyperbilirubinemia (blood bilirubin measures 1-5mg/dl), not due to breakdown of blood. It is associated with reduced enzyme levels of udp glycuronyl transferase, that results in jaundice when patients fast or suffer an infection. It does not shorten life or raise insurance rates, but may predispose to tylenol (acetaminophen) toxicity. ...Read more

I take a multivitamin plus vitamin c, d, all b's with niacin and fish oil, calcium, red yeast rice, should I take the vitamin magnesium with these & why?
I don't like it.: Truth be told, I don't like combining Niacin with the red yeast rice as they can both have toxic effects upon the liver. I hope you're having your liver blood enzyme levels monitored on that combination. Adding Magnesium to all of this is not my concern as I don't see any issue in that as long as your doses of all these other medications are not excessive. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Are nuvarings good for longer than 4 months if kept in fridge? Ordered 90 day supply, forgot had 3 in fridge. Exp dates on boxes are 3/16 & 7/17.
Conditional, yes: If the Nuvaring are kept in the refrigerator then they tend to remain active in preventing pregnancy for up to one year. However, I would use supplemental barrier contraceptive such as a condom to be certain that there is no failure with the "expired" Nuvaring. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I've read interesting info abt benefits of broccoli extract, tart cherry extract, turmeric. Any side effects/harm in taking these as supplements?
What could cause frequent pvcs (benign) daily? Bupropion XL 150mg 3x daily, Prozac (fluoxetine) 20mg, or the combo? Also take 200mg modafinil, levothroid 88mcg.
Your medications: The Modafinil is a stimulant which can cause abnormal hearth rhythms. Your levothroid, if not properly dosed could do it as well, ask your doctor for a blood test to make sure that dose is not too high for you. Being 58 years old, you could have heart problems unrelated to the medications. You should see a doctor to get this evaluated. ...Read more

Hi Dr. I have been advised to take 5000 -10 000 mcg of biotin a day. My pack recommends 1 tablet a day which contains 300 mcg a day. Which is correct?
Biotin is a vitamin: necessary for the formation of fatty acids and glucose and in the metabolism of amino acids and carbohydrates. Because deficiency of biotin is rare, there is no RDA (Recommended Dietary Allowance) for it. Normal intakes for adults are 30 to 100 mcg. As you can see 5000-10,000 is excessive. Eat more cauliflower, bananas, carrots, liver, salmon. Save your money. Supplements not needed. Stay well:) ...Read more
My TSH is 9.75, T3 (liothyronine) is 2.10 and T4 is 0.73. I am taking 50 mg Thyroxine everyday. Is this enough or should i increase my dose?
Need more: TSH is still high. If you have been on same dosage for more than 6 weeks, you should talk to your primary. If dosage has been adjusted recently, you need to give it time for TSH to come down. Typically takes four to six weeks. You can also request a consult on health tap for a charge. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
12 years post op rny, iron 20 & vitamin d at 10. Seeing a new dr that hasn't worked with deficient gastric bypass, is 325ferrous 3x and 2000d 1x okay?
Nutrition!: A gastric bypass is a very complex nutrition situation. If your physician has not dealt with it much i would suggest asking for a referral to a nutritionist or a bariatric center. That being said, the dosage of iron is fda approved treatment for iron deficiency, and the vitamin d is a reasonable amount. You have many nutrient levels that should be monitored and carefully watched! ...Read more
