Pregnant/delivered ?: Thyroid hormine effects brain development & OB screening may pick up low levels. A fetus at 10wks is very early in brain cell formation which accelerates & peaks about 18 wks. Your OB can help you get into balance by then and things should go fine.Discuss this & other lab results with the OB &/or the staff. If you've delivered;baby makes his/her own and low levels would be picked up on nbn screen. ...Read moreSee 4 more doctor answers
What happens if u go a wk w/o your weekly 50,000 IU vitamin d tab or 3 days w/o yr synthroid? I'm severely vit d deficient&have hypothyroidism.
Take it later: Hi. Both of those drugs are nice in that they have a long half-life. Therefore, if you forget a dose, take it when you think of it. Try not to miss your medications. If you miss the once weekly vitamin D, take it when you think of it and resume normal schedule. If you miss a day of Synthroid, take 2 the next day; miss 2 days, take 3 the following day. Good luck! ...Read more

Pth blood level was high. Diagnosed with hypothyroidism a year ago. Vitamin d deficient. Also have high blood press. How does all this correlate?
High PTH: Once you had a high PTH level, did your doctor give order any diagnostic work up for it? If so, you should know which of your parathyroid glands is the cause. You need to see a surgeon for a possible parathyroidectomy if your PTH is high and your have symptoms. Your hypothyroidism is not connected to your high PTH level. Your vit d level may be low due to the high calcium seen with your high pth. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Correct deficiency: Weight loss occurs when your body burns more calories than you consume by eating. Hypothyroidism may slow the body's metabolic rate, thereby decreasing caloric expenditure. Taking thyroid hormone will correct the deficiency and help you lose weight. Hypothyroidism is detected by measuring tsh, thyroid stimulating hormone; not thyroid hormone itself. Vitamin d is a separate unrelated issue. ...Read more

While the us government office of dietary supplements recommends only 600 iu/day, many doctors who do research in vitamin d recommend much higher levels, 2000-5000 iu/day. Go to the vitamin d council website and see studies to show that higher doses of vitamin d may help prevent cancer, infections, dementia and many other diseases. ...Read more

Is a deficiency in vitamin d, hight cortisol and prolactin, too much LDL cholesterol a sign of hypothyroid ? Symptoms dry skin, astheny and low libido
Forgive my frankness: Your lack of vitamin d is probably the result of your getting too little in your diet and not getting enough sunlight. A spot cortisol is of little value except as a screen for addison's which i will assume is ruled out. Your high prolactin and low libido in a man with some serious acne like you're being treated for makes me suspect strongly that you have a prolactinoma. ...Read more
110/60 BP with hypothyroidism ....Still dizzy still muscle cramping, still memory fog , vitamin d supliments with 75 mg levothyroxin. What should ido?
See a good doctor: Your BP is normal. Most with hypothyroidism need liothyronine as well as levothyroxin to feel good- free T3 should be in upper half of normal range. Many other possible problems- magnesium deficiency, food allergies, lyme disease/chronic infections, mold toxicity, adrenal fatigue, mercury toxicity etc. I advise seeing a good holistic md to sort this out- see http://www.Abihm.Org/search-doctors. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Can leviothyrozine and vitamin D3 pills interfere with iron absorption? What foods interfere with hypothyroidism and iron intake and should b avoided?
Not clear: There are studies that show a correlation between vitamin d levels and thyroid disease but correlation does not imply causation. In other words, it isn't clear there is a cause and effect relationship. It's good to keep your vitamin d level above 20, but low levels are may be indicative of a problem, not a cause of it. ...Read more
D3 because this is: the active form of D3 & a large majority of people do not convert D or D2 (the prescription form of D) into D3 reliability. However, the only way to know is to measure serum D3 concentration, not just D or D2. Beware that many OTC brands do not work well; I have seen great success with an OTC brand containing 50,000 IU derived from sheep lanolin; usually taken about once weekly. ...Read more
