Vitamin D Deficiency High Ana And Esr
I m having vitamin d deficiency , high uric acid level usually. I feel pain in my legs, arms and in my lower back right side also. What should I do?
Pain: First off, high uric acid doesn't mean gout. A lot of folks have high uric acid but no gout. Gout is usually seen at an older age than yours, so i cannot tell you based on your presentation what the cause of your pain is. Vitamin d deficiency is often asymptomatic and is not manifested with pain. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
An "ana" is a blood test used to screen a person for the possibility of several autoimmune diseases. It is important to remember that this is a screening test and a positive result only indicates more testing may be warranted. No blood test is perfect, and getting to a diagnosis is usually much more complex than drawing blood and looking at a number ...Read more
If a patient had vitamin d deficiency for years will other blood results such as calcium show high or low levels?
Likely normal or low: Prolonged vitamin d deficiency can be associated with low circulating levels of calcium. Often, though if there is adequate dietary calcium intake and even occasional vitamin d intake through diet or production through sun exposure, circulating calcium levels can be normal (although other lab values such as parathyroid hormone (PTH) or alkaline phosphatase will be high and serum phosphate low). ...Read more

Is it possible for elevated bilirubin levels and being vitamin d deficiency to have anything to do with each other?
Doubtful: I highly doubt any relationship between elevated bilirubin and vitamin D deficiency in adults. Given the epidemic of vitamin D deficiency, physicians would see thousands more patients with elevated bilirubin if there was a relationship between the two. That being said, a 2013 study from Asia suggests low vitamin D may be associated with elevated bilirubin in neonates. ...Read more

Could a severe vitamin d deficiency mask primary hyperparathyroidism by lowering serum calcium levels? [would u see low-normal calcium and high pth?]
Primary hyperpara: Low vit d is common in patients with primary hyperparathyroidism. Although it is possible that it can mask the hypercalcemia, usually it does not. If your d is low, and you have hyperpara, you will likely still have a high ca. The low d may make the PTH level even higher, and vit d supplements should be given and they will not exacerbate the high calcium. This is complex. See endocrinologist. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
What are things you should know if you have an elevated pth, normal calcium level and vitamin d deficiency?
Correct D deficiency: Vitamin d deficiency reduces intestinal calcium absorption and stimulates parathyroid hormone secretion which maintains the blood calcium in the normal range until it is so severe that a low blood calcium develops. Correction of d deficiency restores the parathyroid hormone and calcium to normal. ...Read more
What could cause a persistently elevated serum calcium (10.4), vitamin d deficiency (19.7), but low pth (12)?
Vitamin D: Of 19.7 is a disaster since it should be between 60 and 80. I suspect that is the bottom line cause. ...Read more
Seek cause: Vitamin d deficiency is very common today & may explain the high alk phos in an adult; it's usually due to misguided "healthy" lifestyles avoiding sunlight and vitamin-d enriched dairy products. Anemia is more worrisome and always requires a real medical workup; nutritional iron deficiency is rampant in our world but other causes must be sought as well. Good luck & stay proactive. ...Read more
