You need sun exposure w/o sun block, which then increases risk for skin cancer. Not to mention, it's pretty hot in uae to go outside. Better/safer to take vitamin d supplement. Of course, should also monitor 25oh vitamin d levels, too. Check out http://goo.Gl/votkd. ...Read more

I had my vitamin d tested for the 1st time. Turns out I have deficiency. Can one estimate how long ago the deficiency started? Weeks, months, years?

I had my vitamin d tested for the 1st time. Turns out I have deficiency. Can one estimate how long ago the deficiency started? Weeks, months, years?

Can guess based on:: It's possible to get adequate vitamin d from sun exposure in spring ; summer- about 15 minutes of sun between 10-3 gives most people enough d if you don't use sunscreen. So if you get sun you have probably been deficient since the fall; if you avoid sun or use sunscreen it's possible you have been deficient for years.
