4 year old has speech delay. We speak 3 langs at home and she doesn't interact w other toddlers. Can pre k+ speech therapy fix/help?
Should: Multilingual kids should still progress with speech & language at the same pace as others. I would contact the local public school special services department & arrange an evaluation. They have a program called Child Find which is designed to find such kids and work with them to prepare them for school entry. ...Read more
Not necessary : More than that , wholesome diet cutting overpocessed foods eg minimizing corn syrup, high sugar foods/drinks, msg , food with long list of preservatives, is always best. Heighten veggies eg hide in food. No formal studies have proven gluten free or celiac free is a general answer. Yet some people swear by it- no harm in trying for 1-2 months and see of helps. Is it ok for children to have vitamin C chewable tablets? Each tablet has 500mg of vitamin c. My kids are 14, 11 and 9 (might of sent this 2x, sorry)
Better if buffered: Vitamin c is beneficial for children & adults 500 mg they are like candy that's good for you! however, there is the potential for chewable vit c tablets to erode dental enamel due to their acidity. This risk is greatly reduced if you choose a buffered c tablet with sodium or calcium ascorbate instead of ascorbic acid. If what you have is not buffered, brush teeth after using & choose buffered next! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
19 month old speaks 15 words and many protowords, understands one step commands and 100 words. Tested, and is socially fine. Speech delay or normal?
Possibly delayed: At 19 months, one would expect a toddler to know 50-75 words, understand up to 200 and be able to follow a two step command. These are only general guidelines, as speech development can vary in certain situations, such as bilingual households, multiple siblings, etc. Excessive pacifier use has been linked to delayed speech development as well. Social interaction : A few things. One it's important to have a hearing test to rule out hearing impairment. A hallmark of ASD is abnormal social functioning such as preferring not to be held or cuddled. Limited eye contact or interest in conversation. ASD often also presents with delays. Delays alone, however, are less likely to have social dysfunction and are usually more specific. I hope this helps. ...Read more
