Vitamin A Palmitate Vs Beta Carotene
My vitamin supplement has 12, 500iu of vitamin a. With 10, 000iu beta-carotene and 2, 500iu palmitate. Is that a safe amount?
One can safely take very large amounts of beta carotene as it is non-toxic. One can suffer adverse consequences by taking more than 10, 000 iu of the palmitate form a day though toxicity is rare unless one ingests at least 25, 000 iu.Day for several months so 2, 500 iu is quite safe.

Probably very little: An excess of beta carotene gives you a bright yellow skin called carotenemia, often mistaken for jaundice. It is entirely benign and disappears if yellow vegetables are cut back. This probably means that there is a natural mechanism that stops the oxidation of beta carotene to make vit a if it is not needed. ...Read more
Is it ok to use rose hip oil and vitamin E oil during pregnancy? I heard rose hip oil is high vitamin a. Is this beta carotene based?
Yes: No more than 10, 000 iu of preformed vitamin a should be taken during pregnancy but preformed vitamin a is only found in animal foods (meat, eggs, dairy). There are no vegetarian sources of actual vitamin a- any "vitamin a" said to be in those foods are from carotenes and those are very safe in pregnancy. What are vitamin a rich foods that needed to be avoided during pregnancy? I know beta carotene format is the best
NONE!: It is important to have adequate vitamin a in pregnancy- not enough can cause fetal growth retardation & blindness. The only hazard is more than 10, 000 iu of preformed a in the first weeks of pregnancy. It is virtually impossible to get that much from food- one would need to have 22 servings of milk, 40 eggs or 42 servings of salmon every day to get that much vitamin a! ...Read more

Prenatal vitamins only contain beta-carotene. My diet includes foods with preformed vitamin a and carotenoid and wonder if my baby will be deficient.
Avoid preformed Vit: Preformed vit a is the most common known source of birth defects. That is the risk to the baby. Also avoid any additional beta carotene. Foods contain a variety of carotenes. Eat normal vegies and fruits..Note that metformin causes low vit b12. B12 can be checked by a blood test or it can be supplied as a supplement which is not a risk to the baby. Not in pill form: Beta-carotene can be found in carrots, sweet potatoes, etc. It is wise to include such vegetables in your diet. Discuss with a dermatologist the best product for you. The best anti-aging for skin is protection from sun damage. ...Read more

Not at all : Taking 10, 000 iu of pre-formed vit a during pregnancy is hazardous; docs generally advise limiting a to 4-8000 iu to be safe, but your prenatal contains no vitamin a; beta carotene is not vit a but a precursor your body can convert to a as needed. Is 10, 000 iu vitamin a (as retinyl palmitate and 50% beta-carotene) too much for pregnant women? My bariatric multivitamin has that much. I'm worried.
Not too much:
Pregnant women should take about 4000-6000 units of vit a in pregnancy but you have been only taking 5000 iu, as beta-carotene is not vitamin a but a benign precursor. Too little vit a can be as serious a problem as too much. It sounds like your level is fine. See http://www.Care2.Com/greenliving/is-vitamin-a-safe-for-pregnant-women.Html
