Vitamin A Deficiency In Birds
Diet/ gut germs: Vitamins are something we need we can't make ourselves & for vitamin k there is a special step. Intestinal bacteria help convert ingested k precursors to the active form we need. Since newborns have no gut germs at the start, it takes a while to start the process. That is why babies get a v k shot at birth to bridge the ~ 8 days it takes for the process to kick in. ...Read more

If diagnosed by the finding of a low serum 25-hydroxyvitamin d level in blood it also results in low blood calcium and phosphorus levels. If treated at an early stage with vitamin d the child should achieve normal growth. ...Read more

What is the best time for sun-exposure in patient with vitamin D deficiency? In iraq and Eastern populations ?
Mid-day: The sun has to be fairly high in the sky, at least 50 degrees above the horizon, for UVB rays that are needed to produce Vit D to reach the ground, so mid-day is the best time. For a detailed discussion see http://tinyurl.com/7kv5pgm From about 10/10 to early March the sun is never that high so the only way to get adequate D is to supplement- I advise 5000 iu/day. Very common: In my opinion, it's virtually impossible these days to get all the nutrients we need from food. Our produce is deficient due to farming and harvesting practices, and our increasingly toxic planet and stressful lives increases our body's requirements for nutrients to help detoxify. We have no good food sources for vitamin d or iodine. I recommend multivit, vit d, and fish oil for everyone. ...Read more
Maybe: Hi. If you get most of your vit. D from your diet (instead of from sun exposure), malabsorption can cause vit. D deficiency. So causes of malabsorption are associated with diarrhea, so there can be a connection. In general, I'd say chronic diarrhea needs a good work up by a gastroenterologist. Good luck! ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Diet or Antibiotics: The vast majority of our vitamin k is actually produced by symbiotic bacteria in our intestines. So, if one has recently had a bout of heavy antibiotic use (which kills off both "good and "bad" bacteria in the body), then vitamin k deficiency can result. Poor diet can also lead to this deficiency. A deficiency in vit. K most often results in easy bleeding/hemorrhage susceptibility. ...Read more
I can't find isolated vitamin b1 (thiamine) in local drug stores, only a full vitamin b complex. Does any of b vitamins interact with zoloft?
Yes: In the last few years, studies have revealed that vitamin d3 deficiency is associated with increased risk of cardiac events. At the same time, vitamin d3 deficiency is quite common, especially in our northern climate where exposure to the sun, which is required for our bodies to produce this vitamin, is limited to the summer months. If your level is low, oral supplements can remedy this problem. ...Read more
