Help docs! i'm trying to find out what causes visual migraine auras?

Cerebral suppression: Latest theory is a posterior to anterior spreading depression of nerve activity affecting the occipital cortex of brain with resultant scintillating and fortification scotomata, and loss of visual fields transiently until the activity subsides. This seems mediated by sensitivity of brain glutamate to either external or internal stimuli. ...Read more

I've had three visual auras right upon waking up within the month. Seeing a neurologist soon. Any insight into waking and having the visual aura?

They do this: they can occur on awakening. There is really nothing unusual about this. Auras are most commonly caused by migraines. Colored spots in vision daily that come and go and have had constant visual aura for 15 years. Mri EEG blood work eye exam all normal. What is this?

Retinal exam: Floaters are usually not described as having colors. The description you provide does not suggest a single problem but may be due to pathology of the retina not observed in your exam. Did an ophthalmologist perform your exam? If so, may I suggest that you are having a variant of migraine. Ask your primary care doctor if this is a possibility. ...Read more
