I am on the beta-blocker pindolol and was wondering if I do drink, what effects would it cause?

See below: Although there are no drug interactions listed for Pindolol & ethanol (drinking alcohol), it is never a good idea to mix medications with alcohol. Take all meds with full glass of water to be sure the med gets into the stomach (some can be very irritating to esophagus). If an antidepressant is being considered for antianxiety, it would need to be reviewed for possible accumulative effects on your cardiovascular system. There are different types with different side effect profiles. ...Read more

Is pindolol safe with a low heart rate?

Maybe not: If heart rate is already less than 60, and a beta blocker (pindolol) is to be added, then heart rate willbe further lowered, possibly enough to case side effects or decrease cardiac output. If the patient has already been fully evaluated, a cardiologist may still add a low-dose beta blocker in some cases, in order to reduce the oxygen demand of the heart muscle. ...Read more

Please help! what happens when someone has a drug overdose?

That depends on: How serious it is and what drugs or medications were taken. Overdoses are often treated initially in an emergency room. The person is monitored and often they have intravenous fluids. If they stopped breathing - a tube can be inserted to assist with breathing. Sometimes they are given charcoal to absorb the drugs and sometimes their stomach is "pumped". They may need to be given medications. ...Read more

What can I expect when switching from atenolol to pindolol?

Heart rate: These are both beta blockers, so the switch over should be pretty smooth. Because pindolol has intrinsic sympathomimetic activity, it will likely not lower your heart rate as much, and your heart rate with exercise will not be as blunted. ...Read more

Is it ok to take pindolol while breastfeeding?

Caution!: While most beta blockers are ok during pregnancy (fda category b, studied in animal reproduction trials but not human, and no signs of adverse events), Pindolol lists a "caution if breast feeding" on the label. This is due to the medication being transferred in breast milk to the baby, causing slow heart rates, low BP or aggravating asthma. Talk to your pediatrician. ...Read more
