After a virtual consult can health tap doctors order tests like xrays and mris and echos?

After a virtual consult can health tap doctors order tests like xrays and mris and echos?

Only on CONCIERGE: HealthTap virtual consultations come via 2 different premium services. On PRIME, no tests are ordered, as the visits are single events, not ongoing care (a PRIME doctor does not follow-up on medical issues, and thus would not order any tests). On CONCIERGE, the doctor generally has or will start an ongoing-care relationship with the patient, and thus may order tests and follow-up at a later visit. ...Read more

Have Crohns. GI wants to do check-up colonscopy. Unilateral leg swelling w/ vein stick out; MRI, vein ultrasound, ABI, norm. Proceed with colonoscopy?

Have Crohns. GI wants to do check-up colonscopy. Unilateral leg swelling w/ vein stick out; MRI, vein ultrasound, ABI, norm. Proceed with colonoscopy?

Yes: Sometimes there is a microperforation with Crohns and a locatlized inflammatory process is set up where DVT occurs within the femoral or external iliac vein on the left side. This could produce the unilateral leg swelling which I assume would be on the left. If this proved to be such as on pelvic CT then anticoag and even a cava umbrella might be necessary and of course the colonoscopy. ...Read more

Would advanced colon cancer show up on a CT scan of my abdomen ? Reg CT scan not virtual colonoscopy.

Would advanced colon cancer show up on a CT scan of my abdomen ? Reg CT scan not virtual colonoscopy.

Imaging/biopsy: The imaging modality of ct scan could show findings that would be concerning for cancer, mass around your colon, enlarged lymph nodes in the same area. However, the diagnosis is made at biopsy, a piece of the mass under the microscope of a pathologist. Often the ct scan leads to the biopsy. Good luck, it is important to get the evaluation completed. ...Read more

Do you need IV contrast with CT colonography/oscopy?

Do you need IV contrast with CT colonography/oscopy?

It depends...: Some centers use IV contrast, citing increased sensitivity for the detection of polyps. Other institutions feel the risk of complication from IV contrast outweighs the benefits and do not give IV contrast. I would discuss it with the radiologist reading your study and determine what will be best in your case. I hope this helps. ...Read more

Scope sterilizer: Most scopes are sterilized by a combination of heat, pressure and chemical agents to kill all bacteria, viruses and infectious agents--a thorough brushing is also usually included to remove any debris collected in biopsy channels for example. Is a CT scan dangerous to a 23 year old, (abdominal) virtual colonoscopy? How many standard x-rays equivelant roughly ?

Does have some risks: Ct scans do expose you to a modest dose of radiation which is not harmful if you have good indications for doing this test and there is no better alternative. Virtual colonoscopy is not yet proven to replace standard colonoscopy. Moreover it is recommended only for over 50 years of age. Since you are 23 year old, you have to have a good reason to have virtual colonoscopy instead of regular exams. ...Read more
