Virgin Transvaginal Ultrasound
Maybe: If the woman in question is able to insert a tampon then a low profile tv probe should be able to be inserted with gentle pressure and a lot of lubricant. I have encountered virgin women in whom I was unable to insert a probe. In such cases a trans-perineal scan is done with the probe placed on the external region of the external genitalia. A trans rectal approach is another possibility.
An ultraound, also known as a sonogram, is a painless and relatively inexpensive imaging test that utilizes sound waves instead of ionizing radiation. There are no side effects. Ultrasound can give us two-dimensional, and in some applications three-dimensional, images of structures and organs in virtually any part of the body. In addition to diagnostic uses, such as evaluating abnormalities in the abdomen, pelvis, and breast, ultrasounds are commonly used to guide needle and catheter placement in a variety of surgical ...Read more
Yes.: In a virgin, the entrance of the probe is slightly painful. After entry, it does not hurt. Most of the pain comes out of the spasm of the muscles because of fear. The more you relax the less painful it is to do the ultrasound in a virgin.See 1 more doctor answer
Am I having cramps a day after transvaginal ultrasound because I am a virgin? It was a little painful
Let doctor know: If you are still in a lot of pain from the procedure, best to call your pediatrician/ob gyn, especially if you're cramping. So, they can prescribe something for you to take the edge off, and bring relief.
Will they do a transvaginal ultrasound on a virgin if the abdominal one does not show a good picture?
U/s: It will really depend on what they are looking for and how bad/good the abdominal pictures are that they obtain.
Help, having uncomfortable painful cramps one day after transvaginal ultrasound. Is this normal because I am a virgin?
Call your doctor: While it is not uncommon for some women to have mild cramping and some vaginal bleeding after a routine transvaginal ultrasound, however it is best to notify your doctor who performed the procedure about significant pain and bleeding. They may want to see you again to ensure everything is ok. Good luck!
If I had a transvaginal ultrasound and they said I am 7 weeks and 1 day, does that mean that I conceived 7 wk 1 d ago? Or 2 weeks after that?
Thin u/s inserted: Routine female pelvic ultrasound has two portions to the exam. The exam starts with a full bladder and scanning with a fan shaped ultrasound (u/s) probe over the lower abdomen and pubic area. Then the pt is asked to empty her bladder and then a thin long u/s probe is inserted into the vagina for additional pictures. This portion is important and significantly improves parts of the evaluation.
Different probe: Pelvic ultrasound can be performed over the lower abdomen. However, there is also a vaginal "probe" which can be inserted into the outer vagina (about an inch). It is smaller than the regular ultrasound transducer/scanner. This allows for much better imaging of the female pelvis (uterus/ovaries). It is very commonly done; it should not be painful.

Then the pt is asked to empty her bladder and then a thin long u/s probe is inserted into the vagina for additional pictures. Ultrasound dating: First trimester ultrasound is accurate within 5-7 days. There is no test that can date conception more accurately than a 1 week window.See 2 more doctor answers
Normally: One would see the uterus, ovaries, and whether or not there is excessive fluid in the pelvis. Normal fallopian tubes are not visible.
Ultrasound: There is not enough information to answer your question. Are you having any symptoms? Are you at risk for ovarian or other pelvic problems? Best course is to ask your doctor why they are ordering the test, maybe it is just a "screening" type of exam.
No: Probe is lubricated and only inside for a few minutesSee 1 more doctor answer
Ultrasound: An ultrasound is an imaging study in which a probe emits and receives sound waves which rebound off of internal organs in order to visualize them. For a transvaginal ultrasound a specially designed probe is lubricated and placed into the vagina in order to better visualize pelvic organs/ structures.See 1 more doctor answer
None at all!: Transvaginal Ultrasound is painless specially for women who use tampons for sanitary protection. It is not comfortable for a few minutes in girls who have never been sexually active. But, in general, it is a pleasant, quick and productive test.
