How long should I expect my post viral rash to keep breaking me out into random hives?

No way to know.: My standard answer to that question is, "my crystal ball is in the shop." urticarial eruptions can persist for days to weeks after the virus is gone; how long is totally unpredictable. My 2 yr old has marks on her cheeks left from viral rash that don't seem to go away. Is there some spot remover I can try?

Magic spot remover?: For darker spots on one's skin, there is no magic spot remover. After inflammation in the skin, either from infection, skin trauma, or anything else, there remains more blood flow to that part of the skin, and more pigment made by the pigment cells in that area. If changes are recent, using Hydrocortisone 1% cream twice a day for 10 days may help. Time will fade the color. Avoid a suntan there. ...Read more

I had the shingles rash (3/29) began anti-viral. I had incredible pain for 1 1/2 weeks. I am having pain in the same location. Could it be back?

PHN: If you experience intense pain along the location you recently had singles, it's unlikely to be from another shingles outbreak. This is more likely from post-herpetic neuralgia, a painful condition involving the recently shingled nerve (s). The pain can last weeks to months. Good news is both topical & oral medications are available for treatment of phn. Recommend a shingles vaccine also. ...Read more

Hi there, today I visited my local nurse who diagnosed me with a viral rash, however I am not sick. I just have slight hay fever symptoms. Help!

Monitor and be well: There are many causes of rash. Some are viral, some are bacterial, some are allergic, and many are of unclear cause. My strong advice to you is to monitor the rash. If it gets worse or if you develop other symptoms like fever and pain, you should see a doctor.
