Viper Retrovirus Virus
Rev transcriptase: "retro-" means backwards and the virus carries RNA which is translated backwards to dna by their own reverse transcriptase; the dna is then integrated into the host's genome. The "endogenous retroviruses" can even be passed from generation by infection the sperms / eggs. ...Read more
They don't penetrate: DNA viruses don't have the capability of entering the cell membrane. As such when one sees DaNA on tumor membrane it is from mutated mitochondrial DNA. The RNA viruses penetrate the cell and elaborate reverese transcriptase to allow transfection of the nuclear DNA. This enzyme only occurs with the retroviruses. ...Read more
Why are human endogenous retroviruses (herv's) "activated" in some people, but not in others, when exposed to exogenous viruses? Genetic mutations?
HERV's evolutionary: Endogenous retroviruses have made us evolve. They make up 8% of our dna genome. These aren't of the same class as HIV (lentivirus) or htlv (deltaretrovirus). Few are active & only w/growth & infection. Co-infection w/hiv can turn on herv replication wh/allows our immune system ability recognize & kill HIV viruses w/herv presenting-hiv infected cells leading to new therapies for HIV (vaccines!). ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Doesn't matter: I don't know, but it really doesn't matter. There are lots of things that kill hiv, such as soap and water. Killing HIV isn't the answer. The answer is to stop HIV from replicating and to be able to eliminate latent infection, which olive leaf extract won't do. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
No, but its still...: ...Deadly. Influenza is still a leading killer, inspite of the existence of a vaccine. It is not part of the family of viruses known as retroviruses, which tend to incorporate themselves into the genome of the host cell. Get your flu-shopt every year and wash your hands regularly during the flu-season. ...Read more
