What does vincristine do?

What does vincristine do?

Vincristine ...: Blockscell cycle progression. Vincristine is a vinca alkaloid originally purified from periwinkle. It binds tubulin and prevents microtubule elongation. As such, t blocks the mitotic spindle and causes mitotic arrest in dividing cells. Its primary side effects are neuropathic in nature, a reflection of the important structural role played by microtubules in neuronal projections, particularly axons. ...Read more

Mini-tightrope surgery for basal arthritis?

Mini-tightrope surgery for basal arthritis?

Promising, untested: The essence of trapeziometacarpal arthroplasty depends upon excision of the trapezium. Simple excision without "suspension" has been shown to do as well as with suspension. I favor a suspension which utilizes a local tendon slip, while the tightrope uses a devise to hold the thumb metacarpal out to length. It is not yet known how long it will hold up and is worth the added cost. ...Read more

Had lateral release, severe arthritus abaidment, loss of 75% articular cartilage of kneecap/femur, noe supartz (hyaluronic acid) inj. Whats next 40 yrs old?

Evaluation: It appears you may have isolated patellofemoral arthitis. A complete diagnosis is key. Are the medial and lateral knee compartments normal? Did you have patellar instability in the past? What is the shape of the trochlear groove, the height of the patella, etc? The treatment may range from rehabilitation to tuberosity transfer to cartilage restoration to arthroplasty--so, see a pf expert asap. ...Read more

Would atavatin injections reverse macular oedema?

Would atavatin injections reverse macular oedema?

Depends on cause: I am assuming Avastin (bevacizumab) is being asked about. It is used to treat many causes of macular edema, including from diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein occlusions (central and brach vein). Macular edema from inflammation does not respond (well) to Avastin (bevacizumab). Avastin (bevacizumab) is used most commonly for the treatment of Age Related Macular Degeneration. Hope this helps. ...Read more

Is shock wave therapy effective for patellar tendonitis?

Is shock wave therapy effective for patellar tendonitis?

Not sure?: This treatment is effective in treating unresponsive tennis elbow. I am personally not aware of this as a treatment for patellar tendonitis. If you have a recurring or recalcitrant patellar tendonitis, see an orthopedist or sports medicine specialist and get a thorough knee exam. Even get a second opinion. You may have to alter your activities, take medications and give it plenty of time. ...Read more

Has anyone had success with Tenex (guanfacine) procedure for chronic plantar fasciitis with partial tear? (pt, cortisone, orthoses, cast boot haven't worked)

Tenex (guanfacine) regenerative: Tenex (guanfacine) can be quite effective for chronic plantar fasciitis. It's minimally invasive, very safe, and stimulates healthy tissue growth. I also like prp, amnio-tissue, and stem cell injections for plantar fasciitis. Insurance doesn't pay, but i've seen these quite effective. ...Read more
