Vilazodone Hydrochloride Medication
Yes: Viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride) is a new class of antidepressant. I have found it useful for anxiety as well as depression. It has different side effects than the others so might benefit people who didn't tolerate others well. No weight gain and maybe less sexual dysfunction, but can cause a lot of nausea and diarrhea and must be taken with food. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

I know brintellix and viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride) are both very new. Is it safe to try such new medication without there being alot of studies done? Side effects?
Yes: For a medication to be sold in the USA, it has to be approved by the FDA, (federal drug administration), which makes the Drug Co. go thru very rigorous trials to prove they are effective and "save" in human subjects. But as the drugs are tested in a limited amount of individuals, when ten of thousands of patients try them they could have more rare or idiosyncratic adverse effects. ...Read more
Is there a medication that can be taken with viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride) to help imporve (actually bring back) my sex drive? I have listed my medications. Thank you
Viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride): Although i don't have the list of all your medications, it would be best to discuss options with your prescribing doctor. There are several medications to add on or replace viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride) if side effects are an issue. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Is it true viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride) causes seizures like wellbutrin does? I never had seizures bit don't want a medication that can cause one. How about brintellix?
Viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride) & seizures?: It's probably an oversimplification to say that viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride) "causes" seizures. In some small percentage of the population, it can decrease seizure threshold. Although, it should be noted that most anti-depressants, albeit to widely varying degrees, decrease seizure threshold. The best thing to do is discuss your particular concerns & your risk/ benefit & side effect profile with your prescribing MD. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I just started viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride). I am weaning off pristiq.I have been having severe headaches. Could the new medication cause this? Or from decreasing pristiq?
Headache from meds: There are many causes of severe headache. Viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride) can cause headaches as can weaning from pristiq. But, interestingly, viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride) has also been used to avoid the Pristiq related headache issue! contacting the doctor who prescribed these medications is vital so that the doctor can immediately diagnose and treat the cause of the "severe headache" which may or may not be related to medication use. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Why has viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride) been a financial failure when all ssri type drugs are blockbusters?
On viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride) for 6 months .Its a weird drug..Is the fda going to lower the max. Dose to 20 rather than 40-have you heard cases of ser. Synd on it?
Drug interactions: All drugs are monitored for safety. Side effects, drug interactions are sent to fda to document frequency and severity of them. It is well known that any antidepressant (ssri or snri) may cause serotonin syndrome (ss) if combined with other agents of similar type, or blockers of their metabolic pathways. Therefore, as per your report, combining Luvox and viibryd, (vilazodone hydrochloride) will increase risk of ss. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride) seems not to be the blockbuster drug forrest pharmaceutical had hoped for as their follow up to lexapro..Any theories as to why
No med is cure: Viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride) is a unique med that fills a great void in our antidepressant quiver. There are many types of depression. Ssris treat more anxiety symptoms but tend to flatten affect and dull cognition. Viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride) is activating and is great for people with add and anxiety or who get too flat on ssri. These are different types of depression. No med is best for all types of depression. Viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride) might be best for people who have abandoned ssris for side effects. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Why hasn't viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride) taken off as the new branded blockbuster drug..Such as lexapro, cymbalta etc./is it about side effects-effectiveness-insurance cov.
Slow marketing: I believe the reason has been somewhat slow marketing and releasing it before proving that it also has effectiveness in anxiety as well. Some of the initial side effects needs to be overcome by taking the initial starter packet and using two of them instead of one so that the upward taper occurs less aggressively. The harder it is to get patient and physician compliance, the harder it is to sell. ...Read more
Can the 40 mg of viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride) tablets be split and be effective...they are not scored.
Splitting tabs: As long as your doctor has indicated that she or he believes you should be taking 20 mg of viibryd, (vilazodone hydrochloride) rather than 40mg, then, yes. The pills can be split. You may want to ask your pharmacist about a pill splitter, a plastic device that helps you split pills (especially those that aren't scored, evenly. Don't forget to review with your prescribing doc & be well:) ...Read more

I took viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride) 10 mg for 1 week. Then took 20 mg for one day and i felt like i was sitting beside myself. I did not take anymore. Can i restart?
I would not: Talk to your psychiatrist, but i would not personally take any drug that had ever done that to my mind. It is not suited for your brain chemistry. You had a dissociative episode of depersonalization on it. If it were me, i would avoid that because that is one of the most difficult symptoms in all of psychiatry to treat effectively. If it does that to your mind, then it is clearly not for you! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
No, mostly.: But that's because it's a really new drug, so it's not prescribed "often" for anything! It IS an antidepressant, and all antidepressants are also used as antianxiety meds. This is because depression and anxiety are often considered to be flip sides of the same coin within psychiatry. If you are not comfortable with idea of the med, talk to your doc. Otherwise, maybe try it and see how it goes? ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

What will happen if i stop taking viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride) 40 mg and start taking celexa 40 mg?
Variable.: Everyone is different and time will tell. You should discuss with your physician the risks and benefits of each and the best method of changing.. Viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride) works much like Celexa in inhibiting the re-uptake of serotonin. Viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride) also acts on another receptor, called the serotonin 1a receptor. It is thought , for some, this receptor may help additionally in both depression and anxiety. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Hydroxyzine 10mg ordered PRN for anxiety. Is it ok to take it every night? Viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride) 10mg is also taken 10mg daily.
Iv been feeling aggressive and my recent reckless driving almost caused a bad wreck. Idk why I feel this way. Could it be side effects from viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride)?
Question..Viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride) has been tough to prescribe because of insurance..A new one brintellix just introduced..Whats the good if insurances won't cover the?
New SSRI's: Both viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride) and Brintellix are technically ssri's, but they affect more serotonin receptor types than others. Brintellix was just approved in the us in october, but the company claims it may help the cognitive problems of depression more than others, and also have less sexual side effects. You would have to pay the difference out-of-pocket if your insurance did not cover it, though. ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers
Thinking of retrying viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride)..Going to 30 of cymbalta from 60 for a week..Stopping cymbalta and starting 20 viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride)..Make sense?
Buckle up: I am not sure this will be comfortable for you but everyone is unique! Cymbalta (duloxetine) withdrawal is notorious in terms of how tough it can be although not everyone experiences this. I think your prescribing physician is smart by getting as low as possible with the Cymbalta (duloxetine) prior to the transition. You may want to pour some beads out of the Cymbalta (duloxetine) capsule to get the dose lower before the transition! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Because viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride) acts in 2 ways on serotonin..ssri plus buspar why is it so stimulating?
Brains are sensitive: You are correct, the drug Viibyrd (vilazodone) is a serotonin reuptake inhibitor (like Prozac/Lexapro) which results in more serotonin available for the brain to use. Buspar (buspirone) is usually used for anxiety. In some, these two serotonin effects are too much/overstimulating. This effect would be highly individual and would not occur in all taking both drugs. Good wishes:) ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Yes.: Yes, i think so.It is an ssri and also a serotonin agonist so that you increase the amount of serotonin in the synapses which is responsible for the antidepressant effect. However, there are other antidepressants that are just as good, depending on the type of your depression. There are individual responses to different antidepressants. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

How well does Viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride) seem to work for anxiety and depression? I've read really mixed feelings on it.
Yes: Viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride) is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressant like prozac, paxil, celexa, lexapro, and zoloft. The entire class of medications is effective against both depression as well as anxiety. Of note, it takes 2-3 weeks for a partial effect, 4-6 weeks for a full effect, so you may not feel better or even feel worse for 1-2 weeks before the medication kicks in ...Read more

Can serotonin syndrome occur from just taking Viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride)? I haven't been on any other medicines prior to this but just upped my dose from 20mg to 40mg.
Rarely, but possible: "Full blown" serotonin syndrome usually occurs when a patient taking one serotinergic drug is given an additional serotinergic drug. Most patients tolerate the addition, but due to genetic differences in metabolizing drugs, some patients can become toxic>SS. Mild SS might cause just tremor and hyperreflexia.
