I had a septoplasty on 12/19/12. I notice no improvement from prior to surgery. I've scheduled a follow-up appointment for 2/27/13. Shouldn't my he?
Septoplasty: Without understanding your symptoms beforehand it is difficult to comment on next steps. If the surgery was performed for obstruction then you want to have improvement. The septum simply divides the nasal passage. If this is a revision or if there is residual swelling then it would be difficult to notice this early after surgery sometimes. ...Read more
How long does a skin biopsy appointment usually last? I am nervous about my upcoming biopsy I have scheduled. How long does a procedure like this usually last? .
Depends: The biopsy itself is very quick--can be done in a few minutes. But the appointment can take much longer if you have a lot of questions. Also, if the doctor thinks you have an obvious skin cancer, they may spend more time talking to you about treatment options to get you prepared for the next step. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Will my son have to keep getting his night guards replaced as he grows? Our eight year old son grinds his teeth at night, and I'm concerned. I haven't scheduled an appointment with the dentist yet, but I know night guards are expensive, so as our son grow
grinding on children is common and normal. I would not generally (never say never, but I can't think of a reason why) recommend a night guard for children. While he probably has his first molars and a couple of front adult teeth in, he is in what is called a transitional dentition.
I would be concerned when he has all adult teeth, a mortgage, a tough boss, and three kids that stress him out causing him to grind and/or clench away teeth that he needs for the rest of his life. That’s when you can buy him his first night guard.
Hope this is helpful,

I scheduled an appointment to get three tests done: pap smear, mammogram and cholesterol testing. What can I expect?
3 different tests: Cholesterol test is bloodwork. You will go to the blood lab for them to draw a tube of blood. Mammogram is a screening test for breast cancer typically start at age 40 unless you have a problem or are at high risk. Breasts are compressed in the mammogram machine and xrays taken (2 per breast usually). Pap -speculum inserted into vagina and cells scraped from cervix to test for cervical cancer. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

What to do if I have a scheduled appointment tomorrow, which is my 4 week 4 days postpartum. Will my ob take the stitches off tomorrow?
Staples or stitches?: Metal staples have to come out, typically after 5 - 7 days after a c/section; after 4 weeks it may become a bit more laborious to get them out. Stitches these days don't need to come out, whether a woman had a c/section or a tear/cut to her perineum during a vaginal delivery. At any rate, your provider will know what to do. ...Read more

I think I'm bipolar and my mom has scheduled me for an appointment. I read online that sometime you have to go to a therapist to get the medication?
Psychiatrist: A psychiatrist is a doctor of medicine (M.D.) who prescribes medications for disorders like bipolar disease. A spectrum: Hyperparathyroidism comes in a spectrum of severity. In general, I am less concerned with the parathyroid hormone level and more concerned with the calcium level. The higher the calcium level goes, the higher the risk of heart rhythym abnormalities. If your level is under 12, it is unlikely that you will have a serious problem. But if you feel miserable, you should call your surgeon! ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
How long for cardiac catheterization results? What’s a normal time to wait for results? My brother said he got his before he left the test, but my doctor scheduled me an appointment three days after my cardiac catheterization. Why do I have to wait so lon
Every: Every cardiologist is different. I myself always be sure and talk with the patient and any family that is present before they are discharged that day and usually provide copies of images. Part of the difficulty is that some of the medication most people receive during the procedure produces some degree of amnesia so some patients may not remember details of the findings. I also see my patients back in the office quickly after to re-review findings and discuss future plans. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Tried getting appointment later this week but scheduled a week away, bumps around anus/butt, can I take cotton swab to save to test for herpes?
ToBeOrNotToBeFreaked: No. They need a fresh, hot juicy sample. And if you really think it's Herpes (blisters, lotsa pain, chance you got it from someone), then go to an Urgent Care where someone can decide if it's a high enough chance for you to have Herpes to start therapy. The sooner the better on that. If it's just bumps, and no blisters and isn't painful then the chances of Herpes are less, but not zero. So get it ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
My daughter is scheduled for an allergist appointment tomorrow and took dimenhydrinate today for motion sickness. Can this affect test results?
Why do my pelvic exams hurt so much? I am a 19 year old female, sexually active but safe, and on the nuvaring. I was diagnosed with PID about two months ago and was treated, but once symptoms started to show again I scheduled another appointment. I had ne
Unfortunately,: Unfortunately, gynecological exams aren't necessarily very comfortable for anyone! That being said, pid can make your cervix and uterus extra sensitive thus making the exam extremely painful. Actually, one of the symptoms of pid is a very painful exam - so don't think that every exam will feel like that! This should resolve once the infection is treated. One of the other most common reasons for pain with exam is that your muscles around the opening of your vagina might be very tense. Since your first experience with an exam was during pid, you may be unconsciously tensing your muscles from the memory of how bad it hurt before. By practicing relaxation techniques such as breathing deeply or trying to relax your legs in the stirrups during the exam may help with the discomfort. Also, discuss this with your doctor. You are not the first, nor the last woman to have this exact problem. Your doctor may have other helpful suggestions to make your exams more comfortable. ...Read more
