I am having surgery... The me wants to put my on IR Nucynta (tapentadol) instead of Vicodin. How would it compare to Vicodin? What would be an equivalent dose
About equal: The dosing of IR Nucynta (tapentadol) and hydrocodone (the narcotic in Vicodin) are pretty equivalent. No table I could find shows direct comparison of Vicodin to Nucynta (tapentadol). But 4mg morphine=12mg Hydrocodone. 4mg morphine=10mg Nucynta (tapentadol). So pretty comparable. Hope this helps. Best of luck. Dr. R ...Read more

No dose change, but WHY some days when take my Vicodin I'm FINE then other times feel weak, tired,SOB? I do have myasthenia gravis. Any ideas?
INTERPRETATION: Vicodin is an opioid analgesic and has NO beneficial effect on the neuromuscular junctional issue in myasthenia. I am unaware if you are taking Mestinon (pyridostigmine) or steroids or other immunological agents, but if you are fluctuating, you do need specific meds for your weakness, in spite of prior thymectomy. Suggest a visit to a neurologist who focuses in neuromuscular areas. ...Read more

Once solution is to take an anti-emetic suppository. Also, you might experience fewer GI symptom if you do not use the generic. It costs more and insurance often do not pay but my patients report an improvement. See your surgeon. ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers
