Not irritable bowel: Reflux isn't IBS, gastitis is inflammation of the stomach. Foul-smelling stools sometimes mean gastroenteritis or malabsorption. Sounds like it is time for a GI specialist or at least a visit to your usual physician for stool studies if the problem continues and even a gluten sensitivity panel with a later GI referral. irritable bowel synd is a diagnosis of exclusion, although real and painful. ...Read more

Head to the ER pls: Blood in stool is a warning sign. Brisk bleeding warrants emergency care. Causes of bleeding may be predictable (e.G rectal trauma), but evaluation is always appropriate. A rule of thumb (but not absolute): black stool means bleeding comes from upper GI tract; grape jelly stool from small bowel; silver stool from biliary tree; burgundy stool from right colon; red blood from left colon to anus. ...Read more
