Veins Sticking Out
Easy question!: For lifting any weight, we stop breathing, we bear down, contract the abdominal muscles and the diaphragm as also during a bm or child birth. Suddenly, the beneficial negative thoracal pressure becomes very high making venous blood flow stop and veins will bulge in the face, head, chest, arms, legs. The higher the lifted weight, the more it is done, the more veins with time will stick out! ...Read more

See Vein Specialist: Varicose veins are bulging grape-like appearing veins which are most commonly seen on the legs. These are due to leaking(refluxing) valves usually in the saphenous system. Some causes include hereditary, pregnancy, trauma and aging. The gold standard of treatment is to have a venous reflux ultrasound to both diagnose and form a treatment plan. You should see a vein specialist. ...Read more
Multiple reasons: Veins return blood back to the heart and can carry a large volume of blood. Depending on many factors including levels of hydration, genetics, outside temperature and even physical activity, the size of the veins will vary. Another important function of the veins is to help control body temperature and this too will affect vein size. Also with aging, veins enlarge as tissue volume decreases. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Hi I'm 18 and I recently been noticing that when I smile i have veins sticking out in my neck. When I touch it, it hurts and Im really pale and tired?
Low fluids: One thing might be low in fluids. Do you drink enough water or liquids. Essentially the gorged veins might be a sign of a low volume throughout your body. The other possibility beyond fluids is definitely a weakness in the blood. One thing that comes to mind is a weak Iron concentration. So, I would encourage you to have at least 8 glasses of water a day. Also taking Iron might help. Gee ...Read more
Normal, but...: What you saw could be just normally unique for you and just represents normal variation of scrotal venous distribution, which of course requires no active treatment unless its related bleeding occurs, but extremely rare. So, just watch and see. More? Go for check-up/confirmation. Best wish to health... ...Read more
Pushin too Hard.: Working out causes an increase in arterial blood pressure. The increase allows more blood to exit the vessels at the arteriole and capillary levels. The increase of fluid in the tissue causes the muscle and tissues to swell and harden. These firmed up tissues push the veins to the skin. The veins appear to be bulging or sticking out. ...Read more

Have Crohns. GI wants to do check-up colonscopy. Unilateral leg swelling w/ vein stick out; MRI, vein ultrasound, ABI, norm. Proceed with colonoscopy?
Yes: Sometimes there is a microperforation with Crohns and a locatlized inflammatory process is set up where DVT occurs within the femoral or external iliac vein on the left side. This could produce the unilateral leg swelling which I assume would be on the left. If this proved to be such as on pelvic CT then anticoag and even a cava umbrella might be necessary and of course the colonoscopy. ...Read more
