Not Sure: Prominent veins on the temple is common and not serious. It tends to run in families. They are more visible in fit people with fair skin. It is unusual for them to pulsate. Not likely a tumor: A brain tumor is pretty far down the list of possibilities. I think you have pinpointed the most likely cause yourself: muscle tension.
