Doctor insights on:
Vegetarian Stool Color
Stop worrying: Stool color reflects what you've been eating: fatty or not fatty, high or low fiber, plant or animal, etc. Etc. The two colors that worry me most are black (bleeding in the stomach) or red (bleeding in the intestines). If you feel good and there have been no changes in your health, relax. If you don't feel good and your health has changed, then stool color might be a clue. See your doctor.See 2 more doctor answers
Varies: The color depends on diet and bile output during the illness. I have seen blue poop from blue Popsicles or Gatorade. They can be almost clear mucous to brownish water, but very frequently are a beige/creamy white. The hallmark is the horrible smell that goes along with rotavirus - I can walk in a room and tell a baby in there has the illness.
No: I presume your stools are loose or watery. You should see your doctor.See 1 more doctor answer
I removed the gallbladder. Stool was normal color, recently I found the stool color light color, is this normal?
Can be: As long as the stool is some variation of brown, green, yellow then you're OK
Liver: There is likely a problem with your liver. You should see your doctor for testing. Bilirubin, which comes from the liver is yellow in color and is normally broken down in the GI tract. It gives stool it's dark brown color. If there is a blockage of bile or decreased production from liver then stool looks clay white.
Black: Jet black stools, assuming you are not eating things which will do this, may signify old blood. Also if you see bright red blood this is of concern. If your stool is completely white that is not normal. All other colors are usually related to your dietary intake.
I have had changes in stool color and consistency over the past several months what can this mean?
Depends: The changes may be related to your diet, what you are ingesting. It's reasonable to talk this over with your doctor to make sure nothing unusual is going on. You want to make sure you are well.
Hello im 19 and ive notice a change in my stool color should I be worried it is turning and dark brown color not black?
Concern but no worry: The amount, color, frequency of stool varies with foods, speed of emptying of the GI tract, medications & supplements ingested, gut flora (unique for each individual), additives (like blood), subtractions (like absent bile), infection, inflammation, & other factors. If stool pattern has changed, is unusual for you, & the change persists, or is accompanied by other symptoms, see your doctor.
Slimy light/dull red blood on exterior of stool for a month or two. Stool color brown as usual. What could be the cause?
Black spots/sprecks in stool, stool is not completely black but I can see many small spots which don't look normal. Stool color is also different.
Fecal impaction: You should see your primary doctor. Fecal impaction, constipation could be explanation for your symptoms. If you have bleeding (when stool could be black/dark red) colonoscopy can help understand the source of bleeding. Cancer/cancer bleeding unlikely at age 21. Another test: stool for parasites. Thank you for question.
No: There is no 'normal'. Stool colon depends on what you eat. In particular, red meat, chocolate, and forms of indigestible fiber, as well as supplements (such as iron) can change the color of stool. Blood in the stool is always abnormal, and should be investigated. But aside from this, there is no true 'normal color stool'.See 1 more doctor answer
