Hiv infection is caused by a retrovirus....This retrovirus binds to CD4 cells (for the most part). You may detect the virus by several different methods. Thirdly by pcr (polymerase chain reaction) which ...Read more
It depends: Some people with severe lupus require strong immunosuppressive drugs and this can cause the HIV to become worse. Other lupus patients with mild disease who only need mild medicines, like plaquenil, (hydroxychloroquine) do not have any impact on their hiv. It is strongly recommended if you have lupus and are concerned about HIV that you get tested and, if positive, see a rheumatologist and infectious disease specialist. ...Read more
2009- ELISA HIV test- positive, western blot- neg. 2010-oraquick negative. 2014- elisa-indeterminate wb- neg. Low risk for hiv. Could I have lupus?
Not a test for lupus: The HIV test is not a test for lupus. What's clear is that you don't have hiv. You'll never know why your elisa was positive and then indeterminate, and it's not worth investigating. False positive elisas are not uncommon; that's why they have to be confirmed with western blot. ...Read more
Sometimes oral temp normal while skin is fever? 12 weeks of 99.4-102.9 skin temp. 5 antib, blood work (lupus, hiv, hep, ra) neg. Day 7 of doxy tmp 101.2
Well, that's a tough: One. You have a fever of uncertain origin, maybe. It seems as though you are checking it a lot though. I would stick with oral temp only. Do you feel bad? Chills, night sweats? Did u get chest x-ray? If not feeling bad and oral temps normal, i would try to get on with it. Cont abx but go just with oral, if normal consider that no fever if having no illness. Keep seeing doc though. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Hemoglobin dropped 9.8 to 8.9 in less than 2 mos. Iron, B12 ok, no hep, no hiv. Now being checked for lupus-already have psoriasis. If that's negative then do bone marrow biopsy. Is this really bad?
Check for bleeding: Occult blood loss can also cause HGB to drop as can unfortunately, some types of cancers. I don't mean to scare you but have you had an abdominal ultrasound, checked for hidden blood in stool, etc. If not, you should. Are you also fatigued or have any abnormalities? Ask doctor to be very diligent in your work up. Have you had an serum protein electrophoresis. You should have complete anemia check. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

No cure : There is no cure for lupus currently so the goal of treatment is to put it into remission (quiet with no active symptoms or abnormal labs) and control flares of disease when they happen as quickly as possible.
