Vegan Diet (Overview)

Vegans undertake their diet either out of concern for the way that factory-farmed animals are treated, or because they have heard too-good-to-be-true claims about the health benefits. Anyone undertaking a vegan diet will need to supplement elaborately in order to avoid ruining their health, but I especially honor those gentle souls who do it for love of animals.

Is a vegan diet any good?

Is a vegan diet any good?

Moral high ground: In this era of factory farming, it's a conscientious choice but each of the big recent studies shows no health advantage or disadvantage of a supplementing vegan over an omnivore in longevity or any category of illness if you control for other health habits. A non-supplementing vegan will become seriously sick in a few months. Be discerning and recognize the huckstering & real caring about animals ...Read more

What should I do to gain weight on a vegan diet?

More healthy carbs: If you're trying to gain weight on a vegan diet, I suggest increasing your intake of complex carbohydrates in the form of beans, quinoa, and complex grains. Also increase your intake of proteins such as hemp protein, g protein, brown rice protein, or soy protein. Plant-based that such as flaxseed, coconut oil and other polyunsaturated oils also increase healthy calories and result weight gain. ...Read more

Are there any risks associated with a vegan diet?

Are there any risks associated with a vegan diet?

Vit B12 may drop: The vegan diet is complete and very healthy. All that is missing is B12 (cyanocobalamine), which comes only from animal food, or from vitamin supplements. Taking a multiple vitamin pill or better a higher dose B12 supplement by pill (or injection) is recommended. I like to test the B12 levels on my vagan patients just to be on the safe side. It is crucial to vary your types of vegetables etc. ...Read more

How difficult is it to raise a baby on a vegan diet?

Supplements advised: It can be done, but there are certain essential nutrients that are difficult to obtain, so supplements help. The best food for infants is breast milk- not vegan but strongly advised. When done breastfeeding hemp or soy milk is a good protein source. Supplement with vit b12, taurine, carnitine & dha- these are hard to get from a vegan diet but are available from vegan sources, like dha from algae. ...Read more

Can you tell me how could I have a balanced vegan diet?

Be VERY careful: Vegans have the moral high ground but if you do not supplement, you'll ruin your health, perhaps within a few weeks. Vitamin B12 is the deficiency everyone knows, but getting enough calcium, vitamin D (if you're not out in the sun), iodine, zinc, iron and a few others is going to be very difficult as well. Do this, and your diet is no more or less healthy than most others. Choose wisely. ...Read more

Losing muscle: Despite all the claims and rhetoric, the benefits of a vegan diet are primarily moral rather than medical. And if you do not know EXACTLY what you are doing as you take your supplements, it will ruin your health. If you're going to continue this business, get with a professional who can guide you. I'm deicided to go on raw vegan diet. Is there anything I should be careful about?

Diet: Eating disorders are usually a symptom of something else going on in your life. The cure isn't a change in diet. Instead I urge you to talk out your life issues with someone you trust. I would also urge a different kind of diet. Eliminate all fast foods, high sugar foods, no sodas, anything with high fructose in it. Plan meals and stick to the plan. Pure vegan is often deficient in many areas. ...Read more

Diet (Definition)

Refers to all the physical matter humans (like all living creatures) must take in on a recurring basis; only partially for energy. Like all life on planet humans are open systems which keep tearing down their structure & require intake of atoms/molecules from which to rebuild their structure. Intestinal lining cells replaced ~every 3 days. CaPO4 in bones ~every 6 years, ...Read more
