The brain and spinal cord communicates with what is occurring in the internal organs and limbs by nerve fibers where are like electrical wires with insulation (myelin) and the "copper" (axon). Within brain and spinal cord these nerves connect to other nerves via synapses on both axons and dendrites. A nerve can carry information regarding sensations, and ...Read more

Good Question: This is a great question. I have not been able to find any research suggesting that Lyrica (pregabalin) could affect the results of an mr neurogram. Mr neurograms are relatively new, so i'm sure more information on this will become available soon. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Open surgery: Any surgery around the nerves has risks and potential complications. Ulnar nerve surgery is a relatively common surgery done by neurosurgeons and nerve specialists. It involves identifying the nerve at the region of the elbow and freeing it up of any scar and adhesions. Sometimes, it is necessary to transpose it or move it slightly so that it is not as easily injured. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

VER: A very nice test can be done to measure the optic nerve conduction velocity. This is the visual evoked response or ver. A p100 can be measured that can be compared with the normal range for the laboratory where the testing is done. Delays in conduction can be seen in a variety of disorders, most common with the diagnosis of multiple sclerosis. ...Read more
Causes neuropathy: But unusual to have an isolated mononeuropathy over arm and abdomen. If indeed this pattern of isolated nerve involvement fits a mono neuritis multiplex, one would wonder about another responsible disorder such as diabetes or arteritis. Vit B-12 problems are typically symmetrical and distal. Might investigate all of this further with your neurologist. ...Read more

No recourse: A crushed optic nerve (how did this happen to you?) causes permanent changes which will alter the vision sometimes severely. There is currently no treatment known for this and a transplant is not possible. A discussion with a neuro-ophthalmologist would be helpful in this situation. ...Read more
Is surgery needed for foot drop from anterior tarsal tunnel syndrome (deep peroneal nerve entrapment) from ant tib tenosynovitis from ultrasound burn?
Something does not: Sound right about this. The common peroneal nerve can cause a drop foot. The deep peroneal nerve from ant tarsal tunnel is on the top of the foot. The nerve runs deep as the name implies and hence would not be affected from ultrasound. Entrapment of this nerve would not cause a dropfoot, it usually causes numbness to the first webspace or great toe. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Piriformis sciatica: I'm not sure what you mean by "dangerous". Most cases of piriformis syndrome with intermittent sciatica are painful, but not at all what i'd consider dangerous. As you can see from the image attached, the sciatic nerve can pass behind the muscle or split the muscle (just butt pain then), or one or both parts of the nerve can pierce the muscle which can cause the shooting pain down the leg. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
