...: Penicillin g is the medication of choice for treatment of syphilis in any stage for people without a penicillin allergy. The schedule of penicillin g is determined based on the stage of syphilis. Hiv testing should also be done. ...Read more
Sir I had been tested positive for vdrl I got penicillin injection 3 times when my vdrl will became negative?
Syphilis testing: Your doctor must have checked you and found this positive lab result. After the appropriate treatment - which it sounds like you got, you need to follow up with that doctor to make sure the number goes down by a certain amount. Usually a patient follows up in 3, 6 and 12 months. See the section on VDRL in this article: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3312652/#__abstractid512525title ...Read more
I had my blood tested 17 yrs ago for vdrl and came positive at first but negative when repeated, recent test also came weak positive, what does it mean?
See a specialist: In venereal diseases! the vdrl est for detection of syphilis is basically a non treponemal test that is known to have false positives reactions. Quantitative vdrl test is much better thus essential as well and HIV test. Sometimes a spinal tap (CSF) vdrl is needed too. As i said, see a good specialist in the field of venereal diseases. ...Read more
Sir i govt. Hospital checkup vdrl negative but any hospital vdrl checkup positive what means . And 4 years tpha positive 7.89 present time 2years pa?
Question unclear but:
to quote www.elitechgroup.com: Syphilis is a venereal disease caused by the spirochaete organismTreponema palladium. This disease develops 3 stages over several years, separated by asymptomatic stages during which diagnosis can only be made by serological tests.
As this organism cannot be cultured on artificial media, the diagnosis of Syphilis depends on the correlation between the clinical data and the serological test results.
Antibodies become detectable at about 3-4 weeks following exposure, and may remain at detectable levels for long periods after treatment. Two groups of antibodies are formed: non-treponemal antibodies which react with nonspecific antigens (VDRL or RPR test); treponemal antibodies which react with the specific antigens to T.palladium (like TPHA test).
Antibodies specific to non-treponemal antigens are found in active disease and the levels decrease after successful treatment. Specific antibodies persist long after the infection has been treated. It is necessary to test both groups of antibodies since non-treponemal antibodies may arise for reasons other than Syphilitic infection. ...Read more
If I am having vdrl weekly reactive and HIV negative at present time in future i can get HIV positive result..
Yes: Your vdrl has nothing to do with hiv. It is a syphilis test that is often false positive. You may contract HIV sometime in the future, or you may have it now but not yet seroconverted. If you're worried about the unprotected sex, and it was recent, ssk whether a pcr is in order. Love safely and wisely, and best wishes to you. ...Read more

A weakly positive VDRL does not necessarily mean syphilis and there are many causes of a false positive result. The doctor who ordered the test should confirm it with a treponemal antibody test.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form.
Practice safe sex, if you have sex. ...Read more
It can happen: Revised reply: disregard earlier one if you saw it. At first I misunderstood the question. The newer TP specific IgG/IgM tests (EIA etc) and RPR/VDRL have similar seroconversion times, typically 4-6 weeks. The IgG tests often are positive first, but exact frequency of this isn't yet known -- more study needed. Apologies again if any confusion from earlier reply. ...Read more
False positive vdrl: The antibody against the syph treponeme produced by a patient with syphilis reacts with an extract of ox heart (diphosphatidyl glycerol). VDRL therefore detects anti-cardiolipin antibodies (IgG, IgM or IgA), visualized through foaming of the test tube fluid, or "flocculation". False positive results happen thru cross reaction of anocther glycoprotein. Can be from drugs, viruses, lupus, RA, etc. ...Read more
Antibodies: Ok..Lets separate these first. The venereal disease research laboratory test or vdrl is a blood test for syphilis and was developed by the former venereal disease research laboratory. Rapid plasma reagin (rpr) refers to a type of test that looks for non-specific antibodies in the blood of the patient that may indicate that the organism (treponema pallidum) that causes syphilis is present. ...Read more

Malaria: If you have malaria, you need to be treated. If you have a reactive vdrl, you need further testing. You need another test to evaluate for syphilis, which would also need to be treated. ...Read more

Untreated: I am sorry to report but you still have syphilis. You need a spinal tap and better, more effective IV treatment for at least ten consecutive days. Your treatment was ineffective and not the correct treatment. Your spinal fluid must be tested for syphilis and after the correct treatment followed repeatedly until you are negative. You could die if this is not properly treated. ...Read more
