What does VD stand for and how common is it?

What does VD stand for and how common is it?

Venereal disease: "vd" stands for "venereal disease, " derived from venus, the goddess of love. It's the term I grew up with, but it's been replaced by std, or "sexually transmitted disease" because the more colorful medical terms of the past are being replaced by terms that are boring but more politically correct. Stds are very common...How common depends on which std you're asking about, location, and population. ...Read more

My boyfriend has a VD, for sure. What do I do? Don't want to see anybody.

Bad news: It is time to be seen. If your BF has a VD, you need to be evaluated in the office and proper testing done. Failure to do so can result in your sterility or long term complications. Since VD's often travel as a group, which germ or germs that you may have acquired need to be verified & proper treatment started. ...Read more

Given VD n I want to take prenatal vit, inly available is vitel. In the leaflet it says don't take it with VD n the tab itself contains Vt? Shd I take

Abbreviation issues: I interpret your question to say: "If I have a venereal disease, can I take prenatal vitamins? " The answer to that is: Yes, there is no problem with taking vitamins of any sort if you have VD (which hopefully is being treated.) If I did not understand your question properly, please resubmit and I'll try again. ...Read more

Can you get a VD without having any kind of sex like on the job?

Very unlikely: That would be very unusual. I won't say it can't happen--you could get kissed by someone with an oral std, for example. But you're not going to get it sharing a copy machine, standing around the coffee maker or sharing a drinking fountain, if that's what you're asking. ...Read more

Sexually transmitted diseases. Is that what we used to call vd? I still have sex but refuse to wear a condom. Why bother at 80?

At 80.: If you've had one partner and at your age I wouldn't worry. However, if you are single and sexually active, a condom is more important to prevent disease acquistion than birth control, although that is an issue as well, if your partner (s) are pre-menopusal. ...Read more

My right eye has vd&catarat an optm sent to eye retina, retinadr said I don't have rt but I have vd, catarat maybe uveitis got my tests and they are neg?

Second opinion?: Your eye problems sound complicated, and it is hard to know exactly what is going on. It does sound like you may benefit from a second opinion. Perhaps see a retina specialist at a university center where they are more used to sorting out complicated eye problems. A cataract at age 29 is not usual! ...Read more

I have VD in right eye&had no stich cataract I use predforte to treat inflam in my eye. Also since sergery use refresh, should I use presarv free better?

Talk to your Eye MD: This is the kind of question best answered by your eye surgeon. None of us out here know the specifics of your eye condition and therefore we can't give you specific recommendations. As a generalization, preservatives in eye drops can cause irritation in some cases and those people are better off using preservative free eye drops. ...Read more

My sis having a small lump in her breast VD little pain. Doctor suggested for an operation. What is d reason for this and hw it can be treated?

Breast mass: The doctor is probably going to do a biopsy to make sure this is not cancer, and if it is to determine what type and how best to treat it and hopefully to cure her. The doctor will not know the best treatment until they learn what is actually going on. Best wishes and hope she is better soon. ...Read more

I: I would recommend taking advil (ibuprofen) if you can tolerate advil with no problems, and taking Benadryl (diphenhydramine) by mouth may help. Be sure all of the cream has been washed off completely. You could try a soothing cream such as vagisil also. If this doesn't help then you may need to be seen. ...Read more
