Any hypertensive meds that don't cause hair loss? Vasotec, lebatalol, diovan, bystolic (nebivolol) work but cause hair loss. Benicar doesn't reduce dystolic #.

Any hypertensive meds that don't cause hair loss? Vasotec, lebatalol, diovan, bystolic (nebivolol) work but cause hair loss. Benicar doesn't reduce dystolic #.

Unusual side effect: I have treated pts for forty years, and i can't remember that complained of hair loss after starting any of these agents. That does not mean it never happens (one lesson i've learned in medicine is never say never). Every drug has a huge list of adverse effects because each one a pt complains of in a study gets listed. Vasotec is an ace, Diovan (valsartan) & Benicar r arb's, same effects. Hair loss unlikely. ...Read more

Just started on enalapril 5.0 mg (vasotec) it is an ACE inhibitor. I - is that a possible side effect if pregnant?

Just started on enalapril 5.0 mg (vasotec) it is an ACE inhibitor. I - is that a possible side effect if pregnant?

Yes: All ace inhibitors cause fetal abnormalities including cranial malformation and kidney problems in a large percentage of fetuses who are exposed although not 100%. It is absolutely critical you not take this medication while pregnant. A few doses early in pregnancy are less likely to be harmful. All these drugs carry a "black box warning", that is they are dangerous in pregnancy. ...Read more

Can you give me more info on a very bad coughing problem while taking the med vasotec (enalapril) for high blood pressure?

Can you give me more info on a very bad coughing problem while taking the med vasotec (enalapril) for high blood pressure?

Known side effect: Vasotec (enalapril) can cause cough - and does in about 10 % of people who use it. There's often a "tickling" sensation in the throat. The only way to prove if it's due to vasotec (enalapril) is to stop it, wait til the cough subsides, and then restart vasotec (enalapril). If the cough comes right back, you know for sure. If the cough is due to vasotec (enalapril), it will never stop till you stop vasotec (enalapril). ...Read more

Vasotec (enalapril) problmes: You should call your physician (p) to discuss your problem. Your p had a reason to change your medication and if you have problems with vasotec (enalapril) (v) to let the p know. You are a diabetic and v is able to reduce both blood pressure and protein in the urine, perhaps that is why you were changed to v. ...Read more

I use enalapril drug for one week, my bloodpressure now is normal, is it okey for me to stop taking the drug?

No: If you were prescribed enalapril, you likely have the diagnosis of hypertension, and that is treatable (but not curable) by medication. Some patients do manage to get their bps under control by exercising, losing weight, quitting smoking and modifying diet (esp. Salt reduction). But you should remain on the medication until you and your doctor are sure these lifestyle changes are sufficient. ...Read more
