Why does diarrhea in infant/toddler make their skin red and sore? It seems to make their skin raw no matter how much diaper/Vaseline I use.
Looking for alternative treatment for infant seborrhea on face (pediatrician prescribed Vaseline and hydrocortisone and i don't want to use those)?
Facial Formula: For infantile seborrhea using an emollient moisturizer is usually sufficient. Avoiding soap is the key since an infant's skin is extremely sensitive and still be colonized by normal bacteria. Vaseline locks in moisture and the steroid helps with inflammation. Vaseline is a petroleum product however. Using shea butter or lanolin is often as effective and has less a less greasy quality. ...Read more
16mo old son has diarrhea 4 the last 2 days and has caused a terrible rash. Prev medication ointment not working. Aloe & vaseline & powder not fixing?
Zind oxide: Irritative rashes from diarrhea in toddlers ae amongst the most stubborn rashes to cure. Try and get some daily air into that area - let him run around diaperless outside - who cares if he poops or pees on the lawn? Then, a diaper cream that has zinc oxide may be more useful - some brand names: triple paste, butt paste, desitin, (zinc oxide diaper cream) or generic zinc oxide. ...Read more

My baby has a rash on his face. I think it might be eczema because his face is dry. Can i put vaseline on his face?
Go to a doctor: Baby's skin is very delicate and it is not good to treat it with things that are fine for older children and adults. A facial rash may not be serious, but it may be part of an allergic reaction or something else requiring a prescription. Make an appointment or visit an urgent care clinic to avoid problems. Vaseline does not sound good, but ask a druggist for a baby product that won't hurt. ...Read more
Vasaline fine: I find unscented vasaline a great barrier skin treatment for kids prone to diaper rash.It may not help heal skin that is already broken down but does prevent it from worsening while the body heals. Cornstarch is often used by those who like the drying effect, but i find it more food for germs than a treatment.Once it is moistened by sweat it feeds pleanty of skin germs.I avoid it. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
My 2 year old has a really bad daiper rash. For about 2 and 1/2 weeks. I have tried butt paste, extra strength butt paste, triple paste, baby powder, vaseline. Nothing seems to help in fact it seems to get worse. And every chance she gets she scratches it
A : A more specific description of the rash would be helpful. If it's blister like or fluid filled bumps you should let your pediatrician take a look at it. If it's red in the groin skin folds or maybe small pink/red dots then it may be yeast. In that case, try applying lotrim af 4-6 times a day. Lotrimin (clotrimazole) is an antifungal used for athletes foot treatment as well and you will find it on the foot product aisle. If it's a beefy red color around her rectum then let your pediatrician take a look at it. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
