Valtrex Vs Zovirax For Cold Sores
Both work well!: Everyone responds differently to different anti-viral medications! I usually start by prescribing zovirax (acyclovir) and see how a person responds! I often have the patient take 5 capsules a day and also have them apply the ointment to the lesion topically! If that doesn't help, we'll try valtrex!See 1 more doctor answer
Either: I'm assuming you're talking about oral Valtrex (valacyclovir) and zovirax (not zovirax cream). Both are effective, but Valtrex (valacyclovir) is more convenient, because it doesn't have to be taken as frequently. My favorite way to treat cold sores is to have the patient take 2 grams of Valtrex (valacyclovir) at the very first sign of an outbreak, and then 2 grams 12 hours later. That two-dose course will shorten the duration of infection.
1st dose Valtrex (valacyclovir) for cold sores. Dizzy with funny vision. I do have MS. .. Could it be my MS or the valtrex (valacyclovir). Should I stick to zovirax instead?
VIRAL INFECTIONS: Viruses can promote worsening of ms, even a full blown relapse. Sounds like you recently had labor and delivery, and pregnancy is protective, but breastfeeding is not so protective, and you may indeed have an emerging relapse or progressive symptoms. The long and short here is the need to see a neurologist and restart a potent disease modifying drug. Do not worry about which viral drug is used.
I've been having cold sores for about 2 months and been taking acyclovir and then Valtrex (valacyclovir) should I see an infectious disease doctor?
Hello, my question is about herpes type 1, I have been applying zovirax (acyclovir) for 5 days now and the cold sores are getting worse, what to do?
No surprise...: The anti-herpes ointments are not effective, or only very slightly. Oral teatment with acyclovir or valacyclovir is needed. The recommended treatment is a single dose of valacyclovir 2.0 g orally;- your herpes will improve rapidly. However, it may be too late; it's probably going to start improving soon anyway. But get valacyclovir pills to have on hand for your next outbreak.
4 years ago I first time had cold sores on my lips. A pharmicist prescribed me zovirax (acyclovir). Since then I am geting sores 1-2 times a year. Is this normal?
Normal and common: Best therapy is valacyclovir 2 GRAM [2 pills] at first prodromal symptom, usually a tingling sensation. Must always have the pills with you because the longer you delay the less the benefit. This will make the attack less severe and shorter. There are no risks or side effects. You should also make habitual use of a lip balm with sunscreen to reduce the frequency.See 1 more doctor answer
What are the affects or symptoms for ACYCLOVIR 400MG tab pills (Zovirax)During pregnancy? These are for herpes (cold sores&blisters)
I have heard that Valtrex (valacyclovir) is good for getting rid of cold sores. Is there a better alternative?
Unfortunately,: Non of the antiviral agents available to fight the herpes simplex virus eradicates the virus. They make outbreaks shorter and less uncomfortable. Try to start a log and record what may trigger you to get an outbreak, then start by avoiding, e.g., tomatoes, strawberries, a.s.o.See 1 more doctor answer
51 years old recurrent cold sores since fall. Had 4 since mid dec (heal 4-5 days)soon as stop 5 days of Valtrex (valacyclovir) 500mg twice daily I get another. Help?
Longer treatment: Once the virus is established, it is often necessary to treat for a long time. Fortunately, the medicine is usually well tolerated.
As long as sore is: ...Visible. Cold sores are contagious at all stages from the tingling stage to the weeping stage to the scabbing and healing stage. They are most contagious at the weeping stage when fluid comes out. Valtrex (valacyclovir) may shorten the duration of infection, but if the sores are still healing they are contagious.
Been getting large and painful cold sores monthly until now when I am getting weekly, before the previous one even finishes healing. Take valtrex. Why?
I have 2 cold sores- I took Valtrex (valacyclovir) but they are still there. I feel pain on the right side of my neck. Do I need meds or will it eventually go away?
For the past 3 weeks I've been getting cold sores back to back - seems cyclic. Taking Valtrex (valacyclovir) and lysine. What could be the cause? Healthy otherwise.
Immune system: Is a little down. Continue lysine. You can also take homeopathic thus toxicodendron for a week or two to improve symptoms. Consider seeing a chinese medicine practitioner to balance you and boost your immune system. Eliminate junk foods, processed sugars, increase fresh fruits and veggies to boost antioxidants. Drink more water, less sodas, more avocado, cucumber and celery (alkaline foods).See 2 more doctor answers
